Things that are not working and need to be abandoned ASAP.

-AMac/Provorov pairing
-Chris Vandevelde and Matt Read
-Schenn at center
-Voracek/Giroux pairing
-Carrying 8 defensemen

Waive Vandevelde and Schultz and call up Weal and Leir.

- mochoson

The MacDonald Provorov pairing didn't work last night? If Schenn is going to play center, give him some better wingers. Voracek and Giroux have been split up before with similar results. The Flyers are not at a point where they're going to waive veterans and call up AHL players. They're still in the playoff hunt.

I hear ya, I just think the Phantoms have more than enough forward depth to allow Hextall to bring up a 3rd year pro like Leier to replace a stiff like Read.
- BiggE

Well, at this rate, all they have to do is make it and the Flyers should be able to send a few players to the AHL for the duation of their playoff run. However, I'd look to move one of the goalies at the TDL and give Stolarz maybe 10 starts for the remainder of the year.

I have to admit I have actually watched some Leaf games during a Flyer telecast
At least there is some (Frank)ing action.
Give us a reason to watch . Bring up some kids, get rid of some poop.
Trade Streit ASAP... Montreal or Edmonton. would be good fits

- 3flyerkids

Big year for Hextall next year. He's got to make some big strides this summer. Next year is year 4 for him. This same poop next year isn't going to fly.

I'd be fine with that. Hell, if Mason has a few more efforts like last night, I'd waive him and bring up Stolie. Let Mason ride the bus and rediscover his game in LHV.

Yup, lord knows bringing up Hagg and Leier will doom them to oblivion

Don't look for whole lot to happen this off season for the Flyers as far as adding players from outside the organization. That's not to say something can't materialize, but Hextall has already made comments not to expect a lot.

I think Leier will come up for the road trip, but MDZ should play as soon as he's healthy so they can hopefully trade him.

Knowing that Hextall probably doesn't see them contending for a few more years, I really wouldn't be shocked if Giroux is moved this summer and the "C" put on Simmonds

Funny you say that. I usually stationary bike an entire period of the game. With commercials and breaks in play a typical period lasts about 40-45 mins.
- PLindbergh31

I do the same with the treadmill. It's nice and a good enough distraction to hit those 45 minutes. Keeps the legs moving!

My Observations:

-Thought Gostisbehere played well coming back in. Like Bill said not flawless but wasn't near the worst defenseman.

- What the hell was Gudas doing on the second goal.

- What the hell was Mason doing on goals 2 and 3.

- Right now it seems there is no leadership to follow. Giroux right now is pretty much invisible unless they are on the PP

- I think it's time to get Schenn on Giroux's wing. If not then maybe they should bring up someone like Carey from the Phantoms. I know he has done a lot on the PP but he has a good shot and maybe they need a shoot first type winger.

- This team is just hard to watch. No offense. No physicality. Just right now a very fragile team it seems.

- J35Bacher

spot on. I can see that there is a lack of talent, that's going to happen when teams are in this type re-furbish. But the lack of size and response from a good majority of this team is unacceptable.

Agreed, get MDZ in asap. To make room I'd move Streit with 50% retention for whatever I could get. Edmonton has a ton of team speed and could use a pp QB, I think they'd part with a 4th for Streit

Don't blame you. They're fast exciting team. I think the last time we played them I just focused on the Leafs more than our guys.

It really wouldn't take too much tanking for the Flyers to slip into a top 5 draft position. Just saying

I guess we will see if Hextall's patience pays off.....I know one thing if it doesn't he will go down as perhaps the worst GM in franchise history.

I agree with the offseason.

Other then trades to acquire players there aren't really any UFA's that are interesting for the Flyers. Most are on the older side and not really too many fits.

I loved Hakstol's quote from the STH meeting about if the other prospects come up with Provorov's attitude...

The MacDonald Provorov pairing didn't work last night?
- MJL

No, it didn't. It was our top pairing and we lost. Nothing worked last night. It's time to shake up the defensive pairings.

If Schenn is going to play center, give him some better wingers.

Schenn doesn't belong at center long term. His versatility is very useful but with how this roster is presently comprised, his skill is sorely needed on the wing.

Voracek and Giroux have been split up before with similar results.

I realize this. The reality is there's simply not enough skill to go around to keep these two on one line. It would be different if they were consistently scoring and playing together like top tier players, but they're not. If there's little difference between them together and apart, they should remain apart for right now.

The Flyers are not at a point where they're going to waive veterans and call up AHL players. They're still in the playoff hunt.

This is a flawed view point that insinuates that calling up younger players means the team is not interested in winning and would be unequivocally icing a non-competitive line-up. That couldn't be further from the truth. This team desperately needs accountability and competition across the roster, as well as an injection of speed and skill. Calling up some younger players and giving them opportunities to earn real ice time solves both problems.

Do you honestly believe the team is significantly worse with guys like Leir and Weal in and Read and Vandevelde scratched?

Really makes no sense to move Giroux though. He wouldn't really bring back much a return.

Simmonds would bring back a return

I don't think you have to retain $....it would only come with 20 or so games left and Edmonton doesn't appear to have any cap issues. I think that's a great fit.
