I totally agree with this. Haskol is misusing players, destroying confidence and his choice of linemates is so frustrating. You can not expect Giroux to start producing with Weiss and Raffl on his line. Claude must be saying wtf is going on here!
- joegreif17

And you know this?

So hakstol misused Gostisbehere last year? If Gostisbehere was producing would he have scratched him?

I am pretty sure the coach started the season with the top line same as last year where Schenn produced. If they were producing you think he would have changed it up?

. Streit, MDZ, and one of the goalies moved out at the tdl for whatever we can get.

. Start listening to potential offers on Simmonds, Giroux, Schenn, and/or Voracek

. Move at least one of the 3 mentioned above at the draft for another top pick or a young cost controlled player (preferably a center) with a high ceiling.

. Provorov and Ghost are untouchable

. I'd prefer to keep Couturier but if someone offers something substantial he's free to go too.

- Mordecai

Sorry but Gostisbehere isn't an untouchable.

There are plenty of deals where I could move Gostisbehere. Also I think with Sanheim and Myers in your system you have offensive/two way guys that can bring what Gostisbehere does but also not be sheltered defensively.

Also I expect Provorov to continue to develop offensively.

Id prefer to keep Ghost and get him signed to a cheaper mid/long term deal with the hopes that he breaks out offensively again. I don't like giving up on young defenseman so early.

I am not giving up on him.

But I could see deals where I would be fine moving him. Everything is relative on return.

Like someone mentioned the other day a rumor of something like Trouba for Gostisbehere. ME. I do that in a heartbeat.

Meh I'm not a huge Trouba fan. He's going to demand a lot of money.

Maybe maybe not. He really wants out of the Peg so maybe that's why contract rumors were so high.

Agree.

Remember what Hamilton was rumored to want from Boston but then signed a solid deal in Calgary.

I just think he wants out of Winnipeg.

Well than Ghost should be untouchable if he isn't. He's young, he's being used terribly.

There are so many teams jumbled together below the flyers it's going to be tough to tank below them. Especially if we're going to keep this defensive posture going. 3 point games are a tank killer

Can someone tell me how he is being used terribly?

He is still on the top PP, Still being asked to produce offense. The Flyers just want him to be more well rounded.

It's not like they are asking him to be a shutdown defender and stop shooting pucks.

I disagree 120%. Not just with you but pretty much everyone...

Him being out of the lineup really has less to do with his defense than it does with what he is doing on offense.

Let me pose this question for everyone. If he better or worse defensively in his own zone this year?

I dont think that much has changed. He isnt great, but he isnt terrible. The big difference is in his offense. He just isnt scoring like he did last year. Not scoring when you are an offensive d-man is gonna get you on the bench.

I have zero issue with a rebuild. Hell they have been trying since the 'new nhl' to do a 'retool' instead or however they call it. Not sure thats what I am advocating for but it wouldn't be the end of the world either.

Personally I can watch a team of kids lose, knowing you are seeing growth. Watching a bunch of guys who have basically next to nothing to offer - knowing they are not part of your future, or vets that constantly leave you 'hoping for more' is boring trash hockey. I watch to be entertained as well, not just for some foolish loyalty.

The last thing this club needs to do is become a consistent middle of the pack mediocre club hanging on to hopes of 'anything can happen' once you make the playoffs. Setting yourself up for years of success with a solid and talented core is the way of the 'new nhl'. This core in my eyes, needs to be questioned. I do question a bigger rebuild, and I do think its foolish to hope and pray that picking 15th every year will bring you to that promise land.

The Flyer way, for better or worse is to 'win at all cost'. I think Hex is starting to address that a touch, but I am wondering if its time to cash in on some the pieces you do have and get those better pieces for the future.

Or lets continue the status quo, Leafs 2.0 as much as nobody wants to admit it.

Correct.

If he was scoring like last year then it hides a lot of defensive flaws. but I also think they Flyers want more from him. Not just points but a responsible defensive game too.

I think that they want that if he isnt gonna produce like he did last year, however, its like asking Nick Schultz to better his offensive game..It might happen, but its not going to be dramatic.

If Ghost played like he did last year offensively (again I dont think he has been any worse in his d-game this year vs last) he wouldnt be scratched.

i honestly don't think Ghost will ever have a season like his rookie year. The league has adjusted to him and he hasn't been able to adjust enough to overcome it. We even started to see that during the end of last season.
