Bizarre... he's been in the league awhile... little guy but he's certainly having a year

Lot of chemistry with Wennberg. Put up solid NCAA numbers and AHL numbers, had 50 plus points last season and 27 goals, so he can definitely put points up.

According to the broadcast crew, it was a 'set play' so apparently there was no way to stop it.

Edit: in all seriousness though, it was a great way to make the best use of a weapon like Tarasenko in 3v3. We're going to see a lot more of plays like this across the league.

Agreed. Which is why they may command the moon for them right now.

More to point, expansion exempt assets (e.g. kapanen) could have a premium attached to their trade value.

I think packaging a guy like kapanen for an established dman in june may bring back good value.

The ducks have a plethora of guys they need to protect already on the blueline so they risk losing one for NOTHING to Vegas so they can either trade one and get some value or lose one for nothing.

They have to protect right now Getzlaf, Perry, Kesler, Gibson, Bieksa (NMC), and probably fowler and Lindholm....

That leaves Vatanen, Theodore, Manson all available to Vegas for nothing. So maybe they trade the Leafs for a guy like Soshnikov and a pick for one of their guys...

Leafs actually have leverage in that situation, not the Ducks.

theodore doesn't need protection. Him and montour seem to be the names being thrown around right now for some reason.

i agree, it'll be a dman that requires protection that gets moved; at discount for the buyer.

Why are Dreger and Friedman making themselves look so stupid with the Nylander BS when the Ducks are the ones painted into the corner?

I don't watch many west coast games so I haven't seen a lot of him. Why do people like him so much? Numbers look very pedestrian. Would he be top-4?

Edit: Looks like he plays the 2nd most minutes on their blueline and has good corsi. Just haven't seen him play, so I have no idea if the eye test matches.

Yes he could be top 4. He's pretty much the perfect shutdown guy - he can make plays but his value is mainly in shot suppression. He plays predominantly with Lindholm at 5v5 and helps balance out that pairing very well. He also plays PK on a decent ANA PK unit.

Put simply, he would be the perfect defense partner for someone like Gardiner.

I get my info from Overdrive and Ray Ferraro. He's a much better hockey guy. He actually makes sense.

He brought up the idea of the leafs POSSIBLY using Nylander as a trade chip to a team like the Ducks (Just for the conversation) and Ray said the Leafs can ask and they'd want a huge return including a Vatanen, manson or whomever PLUS like a 1st rounder and plus something else I'm sure.... Ray went on to say if they don't give you you're asking price you walk away because the Ducks have something to lose and the Leafs don't.

He did make sure to mention he wasn't trying to say they would trade Nylander but just for the conversation he was using his name.
