Which doesnt change anything. If I get fired my company pays severence but I dont need their permission to get hired elsewhere. - xShoot4WarAmpsx

Non compete clauses are a fun thing to deal with. |

Why would you want to be hired by a team with about 25 games left in the season anyways? He's getting paid to sit at home with his family for another year and a half if he wants. Sit out the rest of the year and start fresh next season. |

Julien has a contract. He doesn't get severance. He gets paid his full contract even though he's fired. So he is still on the Bruins payroll until his contract is over. That's the difference. |

If you are still being paid, many different industries will have "no compete" clauses.
Morning and afternoon radio personalities are prime examples |

Sales people also. It keeps you from going to a competitor and taking your clients to them. Doesn't stop you from going to a different business. |

I had a client who started his own home security company from scratch. Through hard work and long hours, he made a great sum of money. A competitor of his made him an offer he couldn't refuse, and since his daughters had no interest in the family business (they were never going to need to work anyway), he accepted early retirement. He sold it with a non compete clause. I forgot what the technicality was, but a year or two later the other company broke an agreement. He took them to court (using some of the money they had already paid him), won, and rebuilt to an even more grandiose scale. Almost every one of his clients came back, and then some.
Oops for them.

In regards to Julien, or any "fired" coach since they do still have an active and valid contract, think of it less as a firing which completely severs ties and more like being remaining an employee of the company (which they are) but being relieved of their duties. Kind of suspended with pay. Still under contract, still getting paid, still the employee of the company, but without a job to do. |

Yes and a team that would deny a former coach the opportunity to talk to other teams may find it difficult to find a quality coach moving forward. |

Nah... makes sense...
He has all the knowledge of injured players, any systems in place, any weakness with the team. Say a team like MTL hires him as an assisstant for the remainder of the season simply to know how to beat a rival better. - mlindsay
Not sure they need claude's inside info to beat the Bruins. Aren't they something like 25-1 against them lately? Lol |

I was using it as an analogy...
I do not think the Habs need to go after Julien to beat the Bruins. Just that he has insight into his old team, and therefore I can understand not wanting to let him talk this season to other teams. |
