Sucks when the previous GM leaves you handcuffed to the 2011 core... how do you tear down the Sedins? Edler? Burrows won't be here next season but had an NTC/NMC. Trading Hansen made little sense if you couldn't do the tear down a couple of seasons ago... if your only choice is to ride out the term and hope you get the green light at the end of the contract, then keep Hansen.
The expansion draft and Burrows expiring contract change a few things moving forward so Benning is probably going to make a couple of trades. I never thought for a second his comments about vets were written in stone of even taken in the correct context. These most recent comments out of Benning and Burrows gives me a sense that the team is well aware of the make or break point we are at and it's a monster of a long shot. I wouldn't expect anything big but I sense we are going to get a couple of picks between the 2nd and 4rth rounds before the TDL passes. Between UFA Burrows, exposing a young player to protect Hansen or losing him in the expansion draft, and the recent comments from JB saying if they make a trade, they will probably move a D... plus Sbisa earning JB some asset value and vulnerable to the expansion draft, I do expect a couple of moves. - boonerbuck
I've said it before, this draft year isn't big with superstar calibre talent, there's definitely potential but it's guaranteed. This wasn't the year for the team to try and sell off assets when most teams aren't going to take on expiring contracts when they have to make decisions on who they want to protect. You aren't going to see a lot of draft picks being moved this TDL, it's going to be more expiring contract for expiring contract type movesc and/or with players that the teams were going to lose either way either via FA or by LV picking them in the expansion draft.
You aren't going to see draft picks moved until after LV has the expansion draft and teams know who they have left and who LV is going to sign before FA even starts. Don't forget that the expansion draft takes place 2 weeks before the Entry Draft and during that time LV has exclusive rights to talk to pending RFAs and UFAs and sign them.
If we get a 4th for Burrows I'd be ecstatic. He has a bad contract and is a 4th liner at this point. - CanuckDon
I heard the Kuzma interview this morning. Burrows has a good playoff performance record . He has 19 playoff goals and 15 assists. He is always in the middle of the fights and always running to the rescue.
His contract which in fact was only 3 mil this year at the time of TDL may only cost 1 mil for a rental
If we took back a salary, i wonder is Hansen + Burrows for MTL 1st would work. Those two would instantly solidify a good bottom 6 for MTL and make them favorites to win. - Retinalz
I don't think Montreal needs both of them -Burrows hopefully. But they arguably have one of the best fourth lines in the NHL with Lehkonen, Mitchell, Flynn and sometimes Deshairnais or Plekanec fills in depending on injuries.

This is the concern on trade movement. Guess it will come down to what GM's are willing to gamble to go for it.
Believe the Vegas "right to talk to pending free agents" is if they want to pick them for the expansion draft. They need to talk to them to put a deal in place to sign so they have something to go on picking them from a team. Not sure if there is another angle to this?
Like if Vegas doesn't pick them in expansion draft. The team holding their rights could sign them before free agency opens.
'Not going ask guys to waive NTC's' was Bennings pre-emptive move to get the lazy/crazy media guys off the team's back for a bit. Might also help your negotiating position a bit if you don't announce to the world that you're having a garage sale.
Say what you want about Burrows, but both he and Hansen will be very attractive targets for contenders because of their extensive playoff experience and elite penalty-killing skills. - YeOldTimer
Totally agree. Also, it can't be ignored that it could also be taken as dual meaning,,, "if they want to be moved, I'm open for business".

Have you noticed since this that the pending game is of little importance? There seems to be forgone conclusions as to outcome.
Wonder what the players are thinking? Plus what will they do? Play harder or give in to the expected outcome?
Last time they were faced with these "expectations" earlier this season they turned things around. These games now have extra meaning. It will be interesting to say the least.

You are joking right? Torts absolutely treated Hansen like a piece of garbage. Screaming in his ear over things that were not his fault...one of his whipping boys... when he was one of the hardest workers on the ice. Hansen also has a limited NTC... I highly doubt any team being coached by Torts is going to be on Hansen's list of 8 teams.
21 y/o and could be an effected 3rd line RW in the future, decent numbers in AHL this year, decent NHL numbers. Put up 4g4a as a 20 y/o in 12 games last season. Only 1 a in 5 this, but that is nothing to worry about. The thing with this would be that we would have CBJ 17/18 2nd for Hansen plus this kid. Then we get the other of the two from Torts. Would be a good deal for us IF it happened. Hansen will NOT put CBJ on his 8 team list. Won't waive for Torts hell IMO.

Super impressed with Hansen being able to ignore Torts there. I would have turned around and given him a shot to the chin once he started tapping me with his finger.
