They play with the same people for the most part since they're almost always on the ice together, yet they have almost identical production that is verifiable.

Eichel's the flashy "do all the leg work" kind of guy, there's really not much denying that, but Reinhart is equally important to this team and the production.

One other aspect however is Eichel's recent reluctance to shoot and go for some passes. The kid has a hell of a shot, so while he does seemingly drive a lot of scoring opportunities (would need statistical evidence before I would agree with it), he's also removing a lot of them by trying to be too fancy.

BTW, since you had snarky remarks earlier in the season, I thought I'd bring this one out.

Reinhart has 21 assists - only 4 are secondary.

For some added info, Eichel has 10 assists, 3 are secondary.

Wholeheartedly disagree. I don't think they are on the same planet. And that's not a knock on Sam.

We are well into the clutch and grab era version 2.0. Scoring down and penalties not being called as they should be is very old news.

I think since the concussion data started coming in is when the league consciously decided to let players clutch and grab again.

Scoring is up this year. Highest it's been since 10-11 when it was 5.59. Not by much mind you it's at 5.55 per game as opposed to 5.42 last year and 5.49, 5.47, 5.44 in some of the intervening years.

I am a big fan of Jack's but with rare exception, I haven't see him take over a game. This will be heresy on this board but at this time, Matthews and Laine looks like they will be the better players than Eichel. McDavid is on a whole different level. Having said this, I am really glad Jack's on the Sabres. Imagine the complaining on this board if we didn't finish last 2 years ago and we ended up with Dylan Stome?

The more important question, when you're done, do you fold or crumple the TP?

The Myth surrounding Sam Reinhart

Day after day there are jabs at Reinhart here - he can't pull a team on his own, he can't make the team better, he rides the coattails of Jack Eichel, etc.

Here's some actual data, rather than storytelling:

Reinhart had 10 points in the first 21 games of the season - the 21 Eichel missed. In those 21 games, those 10 points equate to 26.3% participation in all team goals.

Since Eichel's return, he (Eichel) has 22 points in his 30 games played. Guess what that works out to in relation to the percentage of team goals he has been a part of?

26.4%

Man...that Eichel is the best on the team, but that scrub Reinhart can't contribute worth a damn without him!!

(btw, in the time since Eichel's been back, Reinhart has contributed 21 points - 1 less than Eichel)

Sorry to bring over a stale conversation Stash, but I had to respond after back reading.

First, I preface this by saying I too am not convinced on Murray yet.

Isn't it possible that there is a 3rd option to add to the 2 you mentioned above?

He inquired about all the usual suspects, such as your love Lindholm (contrasted by your hatred for Fowler haha), and found the price was not just high, but bordering on ridiculous.

He set his sights on Fowler as it was widely known he was available, and he did so because he thought he could get him for a reasonable price, and he would be the first of two pieces being added to the defense that would make over the defense.

Then he found out they wanted the #8 pick ++ and he did not give in, when I remember many, including you, assuming he would and already getting upset about it.

I think him not giving in to that high asking price for someone like Fowler is actually the first sign that he has begun altering his ways.

- kingcong39

For fowler yes you're correct. For lindholm? There's literally only one player on this team i wouldnt trade for him.

And i hope you're right but the thing is the only way i see them improving the D to the level we want is for him to give up a package that will sting. I hope he's prepared to do that using his players instead of darcys

first off, back to last nights game, The hitting of Lehner's arm bothered me less then the fact that the play started with a shoot in where the Devil didn't get across center ice when he shot it in to our zone and it should have been an icing, they scored 15 seconds later. The amount of interference that the Devils got away with was ridiculous. Jack and Sam are both going to be good hockey players in this league for, I hope for a very long time, but, they are two totally different type of players, Jack's game is based on speed and stick handling, He needs to start shooting more and getting to the "dirty areas" on the ice, Sam is relying on smarts and positioning, he knows where to go in front of the net to get his best chances to score. They are both very young for this league and their games will improve as they mature. They don't need to waste their time trying to be like other players, but they do need to focus on how to make themselves the best players they can be.
