If he's going to step in and make a difference over the next year or two I'd agree, but if he isn't than holding onto him when your window is now might be problematic.

Also, you never know. He might never become something.

Absolutely and I understand the other side of the argument, why wouldn't the Habs want Duchene at this stage? It's sexy, I get why a lot of fans are saying to go for it and I wouldn't exactly be disappointed if they did... I just don't think MB will and I believe that at the end of the day, it's probably the right call

If Sebastian Aho asked you to give him a rusty trombone would you do it?

Why not? If their windrow is now? Who cares about Laval?

I don't think this fanbase have it in them to go through a full rebuild. We may be looking at civil war.

No you're doing it out of sheer pleasure.

Well, either they are trying to win a cup now or at some point. Just making the playoffs is dumb, but I guess it will bring $$$ to the owners.

It might be the right call, hard to say. It's harder to criticize someone for not taking risks then gambling and losing. I think MB will go a different route, pick up another D and middle 6 forward.

Therrien should have been fired last season. He's simply reaping the benefit of a healthy Cary Price.

I still say if it has to include Sergachev they should pass

Nope.

If it could mean a cup, nobody's safe.

He's got other assets to deal and still "go all in"...

They have 5 2nd round picks don't they? I would imagine that a package including Juulsen, McCarron, a 1st and 2 2nd could fetch a decent F, just have to find the right dance partner!

As far as the D goes, I still think Fowler in Anaheim is an intriguing option because of the amount of D they need to protect, Beaulieu who they could trade for but not protect and still control might be something they would find interest in, hard to imagine the Ducks trading Fowler with the season he's having... But a Weber/Fowler pairing would be nice

I'd like them to go all in, if it don't work, blow it up.

Trade every asset they have for prospects and picks, Price included.

The window doesn't necessarily have to be Price's prime years. We have pretty decent goalie prospects and you don't need the best goalie in the world to win a cup.
Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Lekhonen are still pretty young, plus Juulsen and Sergachev on deck...if we go through a couple of bad years, we dip down, get some good picks and retool.
I'm not sure a 65 point player fixes all our problems. I'd also sign Radulov long term, he looks like he could play until he's 80.

Getting Duchene would obviously be awesome but I'm not kidding myself...I doubt Habs have the assets to pull it off, and if they did, it would put a glaring hole on an already thin prospect pool.
- stinger67

we have the assets, the question is a re we willing to do something like

Gallagher, scherback and a 1st for Duchene ?

Pretty sure Colorado would want more and the primary piece would have to be a D
