Hatch has a track record of turning teams around. He's also has been called upon to be apart of Team Canada's coaching staff because of his track record. His structure and coaching style has once changed and left an impact on the Philadelphia Flyers. One of two coaches to do so in the past 15 seasons. Hitch was with the Blues for six seasons. You might want to ask yourself, is Hitch leaving the Blues in a better state than he joined them?

From my understanding, Hitch expressed wanting out before getting fired, hints Mike Yeo.

Hitchcock said before the season started that he was retiring at the end of this season

Ahhhh...you see that is what doesn't add up to me. I think it is a little bit of a stretch to say Giroux is to blame for the repeated failures and Simmonds has nothing to do with it.

The core is more than G and Simmonds.

Just look at the Phil Kessel trade as your best case scenario here, which I think it would be. Is this deal really going to help the Flyers the next 3-5 years vs the chance Giroux has plenty of good hockey left?

Flyers retain 1.5 million in Salary(probably more)

Conditional 1st round pick
Quality prospect but not a blue chip(Kapanen)
Struggling depth forward(Spaling)
Struggling prospect(Harrington)

If you have a team that has the players to make a legitimate run, Hitchcock might be an option. Not for this team.

That's a lot of forwards on big money deals. Resigning simmonds would be damn near impossible in that scenario
- Just5

Not really. By the time Simmonds is a FA if the Cap is managed properly they can have plenty of space. Right now the Flyers have the following signed when Simmer is an FA

Giroux = 8.275
Voracek = 8.25
Schenn = 5.125
Couturier = 4.33
Weise - Final year = 2.35
AMac - Final year = 5
Gudas - Final year 3.35

You can build around that. Ghost is an RFA after this season so his struggles actually are for the best. We can get him a lot cheaper for 3-5 years. Duchene is at a 6mill cap. It is not impossible that COL could keep 1 mill in a deal while they rebuild. The 3 final year players should be able to be traded at that point to free up most of that space.

The Flyers should look to get a long term top 6. Sign 6 bottom 6 players for 2 years max. D will be focused around our young guys. We should be able to get Ghost and Provorov signed cheap before their deals end or raise their worth too much and then you kind of just fill in the blanks for 2 years to leave an option for the others to step up at any time.

You are then left with goalies. Flyers if handled properly could have a lot of cap space in the future. Hextall was able to trade Vinny so he can do almost anything IMO

understood, it is a team effort. I am just pointing out that I dont buy the whole, Giroux doesn't try and the team doesnt care because he doesnt set a good example argument.

The team could watch Simmonds and what he does and rally around that if his intangibles are as good as they're perceived

Bruins fire Julien on the morning of the Pats parade. Maybe Hextall is waiting to drop the ax on Hakstol the day of the Eagles parade.

Since it's full on doom and gloom, what could the Flyers realistically get from ARZ if we offered Giroux and Simmonds? I'm using ARZ because 1. They will have top draft pick. 2. They have cap space and have a fair amount of pending UFAS and cheap young players. 3. Some added veteran players would fit their age group / balance of their team (especially Simmonds as a team leader).

why would Giroux waive his MNC to go to Arizona? I sure as poop wouldn't

If he's going to be stripped of the C and stay here it will be ugly. Not saying it will happen but that's a good reason to get out of Dodge. Plus he likes to golf and Arizona is nice year round and he won't be in the playoffs for a few seasons.

No, despite opinions on him, Strome is still considered a blue chip prospect.

You might get DuClair but even more likely would be Crouse and he will represent most of the value coming back to Philly. If the Flyers wanted more value they would have to take some bad contracts of their hands like Dave Bolland's.

Going to take more than TK and Ghost failing.

And a few scratches of prospects isn't them failing.

That some of these signings aren't as ready for crunch time as they thought?

Or were they referring to salary cap crunch time?
