People calling for Hak to be fired are insane.. Its been a year and a half and the team is in the process of a regrowth. I wont call it a rebuild. Nobody has been perfect from the players to the GM. They all share the brunt of whats going on here.
With that being said, I pose this question.
Is Ghost (even with his god awful/ horrible/ make TJ Brennan look like Rob Blake- defensive ability*) going to give you a better shot at winning a game than Schultz, Manning, Striet, or MacDonald?
*for the record I think Ghost's lack of offensive output is much more concerning than his defensive shortcomings - jak521
I have to think Hextall has some input in these lineup choices, particularly scratching Ghost for Schultz for multiple games. |

I've been a fan for a long time (code for I am old ). been through many ups and downs. the ups are awesome. Cup runs are awesome. I am just tired of the quick fix. I want to see them build it long term. |

Is he more skilled. Yes. But he is a defenseman so I do need him to play a good defensive game as well.

This.
For the past couple years now many posters here have said that it probably won't be until the 17-18 season that we start to see a real upturn in performance and expectations. Now many of those same posters have had it up to here (draws line above head) and want the house cleaned. Check the calendar folks, it's still the 16-17 season and we all knew it'd basically be a repeat of 15-16 since not much (and not enough) has changed.

The one thing that I didn't account for is the decline of Giroux. It's almost like Dustin Brown. I thought it would be gradual but it seems to just hit and I am not sure he will be anything like he was.
I just don't want to get in the same situation LA is having with Brown. And think. his cap hit is worse then Brown. I would start reviewing what might be out there in that regard with Giroux. |

His lack of offense is what makes his defensive play less tolerable most likely. if he was producing like last year his defensive short comings could be overlooked more readily

What facet of the roster has improved? It's basically the same roster other then Konecny and Provorov.

i get the lack of patience since its been since 1975 this city has won a cup but as I have said a dozen times we all know Hextall planned on building this through the draft which is not an overnight process. he inherited some bad contracts that he has had to deal with. He inherited a team with many holes. I believe in his plan to build via the draft. I look at the Kings where he came from. Lombardi was hired after the 2005-2006 season. he did a good job of acquiring assets and fixed their AHL team which Hextall was the GM I believe. it took them til the 2011-2012 season to win their first cup. He inherited a few nice core pieces, acquired picks and drafted well and then made the moves to bring players like Carter and Richards. I want to see this built for the long term as much as it sucks in the short term. they are still in the acquire assets stage if you ask me. Personally I would move any of the UFAs at the deadline. I would think MDZ would get a decent return as a rental. - nastyflyergirl
I just hope our drafting can turn around the talent that LA was able to draft and develope.
2003: Brown
2005: Kopitar, Quick
2006: Lewis
2007: Martinez, King
2008: Doughty
2009: Schenn (Richards), Clifford , Nolan. Dowd
2010: Toffoli
2011: Shore
2012: Pearson , Ladue (prospect now)
2014: Kempe
All of these players are current players minus Schenn on current roster or in development. How many players on our current roster can we say that about?

Bill, I could not agree more. Last year making the playoffs was a surprise. The preseason line was that they could very well take a step or two backwards this year. What is disheartening to me is the poor play 5 on 5 by Giroux's line and the lack of attention to defense on the PP. I really like Giroux, but if he is supposed to be one of the best in the league shouldn't we see that more often reflected as a positive on the score sheet? Same with Jame. Ghost is sitting when he isn't even the worst offender on ice when it comes to defensive breakdowns.
They were at least another full year away before the season started and they still are. It is just that the scenery on this stretch of the road is pretty nasty. - wbon22
Bahahahaha. Are you kidding with this? He regressed so far so fast, I got whiplash. Dude isn't even mentioned as a premier player anymore...he's just another pair of skates. |

Provorov is their best dman by a country mile, and Konecny is a solid player. That is a big improvement to last years roster. |

Believe me, it's not going to be long before a wide faction of the fan base starts calling for Hextall's head. It was inevitable.
Hextall has some difficult hurdles to clear. One of the biggest is it looks right now that the team's franchise #1 center no longer looks like a franchise player. - MJL
that is very alarming. Giroux just does not look like the same dynamic player he was in the 13-14 season. I don't know if he has been worn out or injuries have taken their toll or both but he just doesn't have that burst anymore. |

ARZ is pretty weak up the middle. Even more so if Hanzal doesn't resign in offseason. I used Giroux because it's been thrown around here that he's hard to trade. Package him with Simmonds and it's more attractive of a deal. Their age group is extremely young as I stated. And even more so with Vbrtaa, Hanzal, and Doan all possibly going. You add Giroux you have a 1C/2C, a good faceoof guy, a PP specialist and a player to add to the marketing of the team. The main component of the deal for ARZ is getting Simmonds; Giroux is more a salary move on our end and a opportunity for ARZ to get him for a discount I suppose. At the end of the day, it's hypothetical talk fitting the doom and gloom vibes of the thread / recent times. - arichardson22
Keep Simmonds and give them overrated Coots. Tired of that MFer too. |

really have to hope the kids they drafted are NHL players. obviously building thru the draft makes it vital to hit in all rounds (not every player but hit beyond the first round).

Two prospects cracked the roster out of camp that weren't supposed to. And we have what looks like the #1 defenseman everyone has been screaming for.
If you say you 100% for sure knew at the end of the Washington series last year that Konecny would be a Flyer you are 100% a liar.
