I can deal with a bit of cheating in the D zone when they have a setup of 4 men to support the breakout but being on the wrong side of the puck in the neutral zone in a wide open 3on3 is bad.
- TheMussel

Same old when Phil was here....didn't matter that 2 of the 3 forwards were below the goalline...the last guy would just go in there and then voila...3 on 2 against.

It never failed in Phils last year....

But yes...I don't mind if you have support....but it doesn't seem to matter with JVR or Bozak...they always seem to be on the wrong side of the puck.

As if JVR goes for that puck....he's gotta be the worst defensive forward we have.

And that 3 on 1 we had and just bury it in the goalies chest.

They really blew that game...

Rielly can't shoot

It's like a peewee shot.

How many of those goals last night were his fault?
- Garnie

Tough to say, and doesn't make my statement untrue.

The late tieing goal was not his fault. That was a train wreck in the Leafs end.

Still the second best pure passer in the game. I think Nic Backstrom might finally have gotten him.
- AdamFrench

He is a good one for sure.

So Julien to the Golden Knights or Islanders?
- AdamFrench

that would be my guess unless they keep Doug there.

I havent seen a lot in the last 4 games....that were just horrendous but I guess he has been fighting the puck a bit. Not too many shots that he just sucks up...a lot of rebounds...but the whole 5 man group just seem to fall apart when the pressure is on.

I think Bab's has them "thinking" too much instead of just playing. ( just a guess )

Rielly was pretty big part of both the last 2 goals NYI scored.
The easy part to remember is the JVR pirouette ..but it shoudnt have even got to that point

- senstroll

I didn't see the first period, but I was listening to 1050 in the first intermission.

One of the hosts was absolutely ripping Chauncey Gardiner for his play. Directly blamed him for one of the first period goals - basically said he refused to be physical, did some weird twirly check that you'd only see in kids' games. Then he went on to say that some advance stats guys think Gardiner is top 5 in the NHL - and that if this is true, Gardiner needs to start playing like it, because he was awful in the first period.

It was hilarious.

I don't mind his shot from the hash marks...but I think we need to tic tac toe that into the back of the net...or he needs to rip that top shelf....(frank)ing right in the middle of the logo.

Rielly is skating more poorly than I've ever seen him. Injury ain't over.

Ever had a high ankle sprain?

They are a female dog.

Don't expect him to be at 100% for a while.

Gardiner's at his best when he's at 19 to 20 min/game. He sucked last night, but overall, I've got no issues with him.

I really do hope Marchenko gets a look tonight.

And regardless of the d, 6 goals on 34 shots is still brutal. 5.88GAA .833 spct over his last 4 gp....teams typically don't win or even get 4 points over a stretch like that.

Would it not make more sense to just let him rest? Let it heal?

He was on the ice for the second goal against. Him and Andersen had a weird miscommunication with who was getting the puck. Gardiner pretty much stopped behind the net and the puck went around the boards and he just stared at it as the islander player picked it up. They never got out of the zone after that. It was painful to watch.

Did you watch any games when he wasn't in the line-up? Yikes, it was bad.

I'm not a doctor, but I do remember when I blew out my ankle a few years ago.

The doctor said that I could start playing hockey again very early on, because the skate boot was basically a very good ankle brace. It was simply a matter of how much pain I could handle.

So I'm guessing that Rielly is the same, but of course I'm not a doctor, so I could be 100 per cent wrong on this.

Good thing the Leafs have depth on D to be able to rest him

When they are banging in rebounds and easy tap in's...it is the D's fault unfortunately.

Question for the gang: I'm trying to get a Centennial Classic Jersey. Wanted Marner, but Matthews is fine too

Anyways, the NHL shop is sold out of every size but medium and the ones at the real sports store are like $50-60 bucks more. Anyone know anywhere else to potentially get one?

Yeah it's weird that in a 6-5 game I couldn't really fault Andersen at all. In fact, he made like 3-4 amazing saves or it could have been worse

Team defense is putrid right now.

Yep...not even just blaming the 6 d...but the whole 5 man unit. I agree that Andersen is struggling to control rebounds a bit and fighting the puck...but man we need to keep playing hockey with the lead instead of this giving it to the other team anywhere but in our end and then waiting for them to attack again.

It's like they don't give 2 (frank)s about the d side of the puck.

I wouldn't put JVR out there again 3 on 3....that's not his 1st time he heads for the O zone leaving an easy 3 on 1 behind him.

- Garnie

That was brutal. There was a low percentage chance of him getting the puck.

It's like he's playing pick up terrible defensive play. I hope babcock bag skates him
