I think Bloated was a season ticket holder for two decades....he's allowed to complain, right?

For a building team I think those 2nd rounders they traded for Vey, Baertschi and Gudbranson are important. The 2nd they traded for Sutter is really irrelevant because they only moved down five or so spots.

Listen I know a lot of people love this Gudbranson kid, but to me, he wasn't great this year. Ya he had a couple good fights but who cares, he didn't play that well. He's young and he's a dman, so I'm good with that one.

The Baertschi and Linden Vey ones I could have done without, but that's water under the bridge now isn't tit.

Just use the picks that you have to select kids....please

- LeftCoaster

Baerschi was a good trade, Vey was definitely to appease WD. Prob how we got him in the first place was to tell him we will try and trade for a couple guys he wants. Perfectly explains Vey and Dorsett really.

I think he's said he's done filling in the layer of young experienced guys. It's all drafting kids now. On the rebuild when those kids come up they will have that those young guys as vets to lean on. Right now those young guys are taking up what's left of the old guard. It helps in one transition to another. Though a couple trades are due to inflate the young guard to come in.

I am not sure acquiring 22/23 year olds is looking for quick fixes. They didn't want a team of 19 year olds and a few 36 year olds.

Also, I am curious as we no the TDL freakout is coming soon. Who would you move at the deadline and what do you think the return will be?

- CanuckDon

Sure it is and Benning has admitted as much that they were looking for ways to get competitive again quickly. Even yourself has admitted that he was likely hired based upon his plan of being able to do this withing the Sedin's contract window.

“I like this team - I like the core players. This is a team we can turn around in a hurry.” - Benning

"What we’re trying to do is we’re trying to add core prospects ‘on the fly’."
--Jim Benning, April 29, 2015

Whats the difference between calling it a quick fix or a filling in the age gap? It amounts to the same thing.

If they just wanted some players between the age of 19 and 36 like you suggest, then you go the FA market bargain bin and can find many NHL players who won't win you anything but at least won't cost assets and can help insulate your players.

Nobody seems to want to say what a trade return should look like when asked to offer up suggestions. Other than saying trade this guy or that positional player... so how about this, trying to keep cap etc. In mind

To Montreal: Luca Sbisa
To Canucks: David Desharnais + Mtl 2nd 2017

Montreal gets a #4/5 defenseman with another year and fairly young.
Canucks get an expiring contract plus another magical 2nd round choice.

Montreal would be taking on additional $100k, in this transaction.
Vancouver doesn't have worry about losing a decent defenseman to expansion.

Fair trade?

Free agents are generally between 27-35. They wanted kids between the ages of 20-25. Makes sense to me.

If they can expose another dman, then ya, it's a good trade to get a 2nd rounder.

And why would they want "kids" between the ages of 20-25 ? They were hoping to find players that were further along the development path right?

That's a quick fix.
