This road trip and tough Feb schedule couldn't come at a better time. Of the possible 10 games ahead, I think our only chance of winning is against Buffalo and Detroit.

This should create a great itch in JB's finger to pull the trigger come deadline. Miller, Hansen, Burrows, Skille, etc, gone.

I was listening to 1040 and Tony G stated 5 points might be considered a success or they'd still be in it.

sounds like a slow death.

sell, sell, sell.

I hate the word tank, I still want to be entertained.

One of the reasons it's tough is because there isn't much for core youth to get excited about yet. In a couple of years they'll still suck but we'll feel like we've turned a corner.

I get your points. They have their merit. Just a couple questions

1) Other then the Leafs recently last season. What GM has said they are not trying to win to begin a season?

2) If the Nucks are not drafting to build. What do you think they are doing?

3) At what point is the "start drafting" part complete to do the other things?

- Nuck4U

1) Off the top of my head, Washington, they made a conscious decision during the 03/04 season to strip down their roster and rebuild. That decision along with some great first round drafting is what you're seeing in Washington right now, an extremely competitive team with a chance to win every year. Luck played a part in the Ovechkin year I know.

"McPhee and Caps owner Ted Leonsis made the decision to scrap the team's current lineup in order to dump salaries and begin a youth movement for the team"

The Oilers did, but they had incompetent managers, thus it took changing their management team and some luck to make it work. Looks like they've got a bright future. Pittsburgh. Buffalo did it but they just started a few years ago so you won't see the fruits of it for a few years yet. Los Angeles did it.

You don't have to suck for years on end, I think that's the point you're missing from me?

2) Drafting to build and rebuilding are two separate things, again, something that from my perspective is lost on you.

3) When I speak of drafting and the Canucks in the same sentence, I'm referring to my want for them to use the draft to rebuild, as in multiple 1st 2nd and 3rd round picks over a three year window.

That hasn't happened with Benning yet.

I'm excited about Horvat Stecher Tree and potentially Boeser but that's not a lot. We still need to replace Hank somehow...gonna be a process to be sure.

You can't have your cake and eat it though, you've gotta be able to understand that you NEED down years, and a management team that takes advantage of those years, in order to be good again.

Great questions... I suppose some fans are willing to go with "never" on point 3... unless, like the oilers and leafs the Nux managed to tank to the point where they got a top center... and in the oilers case, a generational talent

I hate the words asset management, but it's still what needs to be done. The laffs were somewhat entertaining the last few years despite being awful. I suspect what makes it (losing) palatable is watching young guys learn/make mistakes instead of older guys decline(which we are currently seeing both in Van). I prefer the former myself and hope management continues to offload guys and we see a dive here.

Does that have to do with the players or the coaching? Even if you say both, which dictates the style more?

I think after this year there will be more to look forward to:

Horvat
Stetcher
Tree
Juolevi
Boeser
Lockwood
Demko
Gaudette
Nolan Patrick/ Nico/ Middlestad/ Tippet
our next 2nd and 3rd round picks.

more to look forward to for sure, but still have to be patient (me/we, fans).

I don't want to see guys rushed into the lineup that aren't ready. still believe the ahl is where most should start, making the jump from college or chl to the nhl should be more rare than what is expected by some on these boards.

You are correct!!!!!!!!!
- CanuckDon

It was semantics. They may not ask the player but they can ask the player's agent. They can also not ask to waive the NTC but can say "let us know if you want to join a competitive team for the playoffs".

And NuckFu, I have only responded to one of your posts. One. So STFU!!

I don't believe that at all. In fact I have posted many times how everyone's view should be respected. We can argue which is part of the point of being here. We can discuss and exchange ideas too; building up a view. We can chide each other as well which all is in good fun. But I don't look for fights or start them. Especially personal attacks.

The problem is you are talking to Golfing and Marwood two of the most obtuse hecklers and troublemakers ever. They have not stopped from day one to attack everything and anything I post. I have applied various strategies over the months. Ignore, make light of myself, defend and shame. They don't stop their personal attacks and always counter whatever I post. Even if it's exactly what they want to hear. Or when they think I'm not online they start up like now. It's like they have nothing better to do. Then they blame it all on me as if I started up something. Some others join in and there you go. Rinse and repeat.

I don't care. I expect it from them. It's okay. They can keep going on or not. I am not going anywhere. Nor do I believe my BS is any better then anyone else's. We can all picnic in HB and have fun with the food fights or share the meal. Whatever is the soup de jour of the day.

So what to make of other young guys like JV, Sven, Granlund, and Hutton?
Plus youngish Guddy, Sutter and maybe Rodin? Keep, trade or dump?
