Like I said, at least I acknowledge that I'm a horrible poster, he's the worst kind. A horrible poster that thinks he's a good one and that we're all horrible instead.

I know I am worse then you. I didn't even merit the participation award.

Problem is, nobody can control when the decline begins.
You either have a good roster or you don't.

This roster blows, with or without the venerated Vets.
To think that a GM, any GM, can mitigate a sub-par product and thus, decide 'when' is best to address it is not within the realm of reality.

All the teams that 'tanked' (selling off assets and driving for last) were already on that path anyways. They simply rationalized that attempting to get a 1st overall pick is better then a 4th overall pick.

- Whiskey-Tango

No, but you can avoid making that decline greater in a year that might not be as condusive to trying for the bottom of the standings. Especially when the lotto really doesn't favor you if you're in those bottom 3 spots (especially 28th since LV nominally has the best odds for 3rd OA). It also doesn't help that there's no bonified superstar at the top of the draft, there's definitely potential, but no guarantee. In fact, if I were whoever wins the 1OA this year (if it's not LV that is) should think about trading down and see if they can't pick up prospects and extra picks in the lower 1st/2nd rounds since the talent level for the most part is pretty even until about the late 2nd/early 3rd rounds.

Let's not forget that you're going to lose someone decent in the expansion draft since the rules favor LV this time. It's definitely going to factor into GMs decisions after the end of the season, especially since LV can pluck FAs before they even get to July 1st.

Then you need to be debugged as version 1.0 seems to be all A with no I in the program.

However many or few, they have to move assets while in a rebuilding window. This notion that they don't want to upset guys with NTC's by asking them to move is complete bollocks!!! (I'm working beside/with a young English engineer)

No wonder why you think the tear it all down type of rebuild works. It works on paper it has to work in reality.

It's an issue if you're trying to win and you finish bottom five in two of the three years you're the manager, thus my distaste for Benning.

Here's what I know, the two most successful periods in Canucks history were lead by players they drafted 2nd, 2nd & 3rd overall (Linden/Daniel/Henrik). Can you simply just draft and say we're gonna win, no, obviously not! It's a culmination of drafting, developing, trading and free agent signings.

I'd like to start with the drafting part, thus my continual harping, towards Benning, on the subject...sadly you all have to listen to it almost daily though. For that, I'm sorry, but I like this format and I think you're all a bunch of good guys.

- LeftCoaster

Can't you say that about all managers that finish bottom 10? Every manager and coach is trying to win

everything starts on paper, doesn't it?

As I said earlier, the only time in Canucks history where they've been truly successful started with three 2nd overall picks and a 3rd overall pick. No they didn't win but they were in a position to, that's what matters.

I'm only concerned with ours though, (frank) the other guys, they can continue to be clueless, I want/expect our guy to be better.

I think many managers have a better understanding of where there team is. At least there was no " 2 1sts and a 2nd " type of trade.

Perhaps...although I am pretty sure Benning and Linden know the team sucks. It just doesn't help matters if they come out in the media and admit it.

The LE signing suggests otherwise, unless that's another FA move?

I saw that move as trying to keep fans around. He was acquired purely to add some offense and hopefully help sell a few seats. He has failed so far. I liked the signing at the time but he has been a bust so far

I just see it as counter-productive. Propping up a bad team with expensive, older UFA's.

This road trip and tough Feb schedule couldn't come at a better time. Of the possible 10 games ahead, I think our only chance of winning is against Buffalo and Detroit.

This should create a great itch in JB's finger to pull the trigger come deadline. Miller, Hansen, Burrows, Skille, etc, gone.

I get your points. They have their merit. Just a couple questions

1) Other then the Leafs recently last season. What GM has said they are not trying to win to begin a season?

2) If the Nucks are not drafting to build. What do you think they are doing?

3) At what point is the "start drafting" part complete to do the other things?

Miller - maybe a 3rd round pick
Burrows - absolutely nothing
Hansen - hopefully a 2nd
Skille - a signed Corrado jersey

I am also a union guy so I was just poking fun at you for you earlier comment.

I also want some nice picks, but I want team to compete hard, develop/play the youth & quit bringing in soft players, we have more than our quota.(by soft I mean non-physical).
