"I’m not really looking for what he’s learned,” Hakstol said of Konecny. "I’m looking for what he can add to the lineup."

According to Cap Friendly, Ghost would have to clear waivers. No chance he clears.

I think what Hakstol is trying to do and what he has done with Gostisbehere is pretty clear.
- MJL

Then what is it? Because he has gotten piss poor results with whatever he's attempted with him so far this season. Yes, Ghost has warts in his game right now and he bares the most responsibility for that but keeping him out of the line up isn't going to allow him to redeem himself. If his biggest issue is a lack of confidence then at some point he needs a vote of confidence from the coach to start building himself back up. Hakstol effectively did the reverse of that today by inserting Konecny into the line up while keeping Ghost out of it. That's the connection I was alluding to.

As long as the kids know that the team only cares about their development this season and that mistakes will happen, they shouldn't be too worried about being overwhelmed. I'm also not advocating trading every vet on the team. Guys like MacDonald, Gudas, Raffl, Read, Giroux, Couturier and others would probably still be around.

When they lose, we're closer to a top pick.

When they win, it's fun seeing the young guys have success.

We are in 100% agreement on this.

I swear you say this exact line at least 5 times a week about player needing more development. When it comes to Leier and Laughton, exactly how much more time do they need to spend in the AHL? Laughton has had a good amount of games already with Flyers, but I'll cut him some slack since it seems he's redefining his role/ bad concussions. But Leier is 22 and an upcoming RFA, wouldn't you want to see his play more to see if he actually has a role or future with this team? I can tell you right now Bellemare and VV have no future with our team. They wouldn't be missed if they were gone tomorrow. So, why not dress a player who has a chance to be a player for your future even as a depth role compared to a player who has no room for improvement and will have little change to their game?

Some points simply need to be reinforced, so I'll spell it out for you. There are some posters who just want to see a different name in the lineup, without giving it any real thought. Here is the facts, none of us know what player is ready to move up to the NHL better than Hextall and the Flyers do. I'll also further reinforce that the Flyers don't give up and throw away seasons. Their goal is to compete and make the playoffs.

So let's list some factors that might come into play in who to call up and when

Will adding a player from the Phantoms improve and make the team better now?
What is best for that player? Is he ready to make the jump? Will he get the playing time to the benefit of the player? Is keeping him in the AHL more beneficial at this point, to the future development of the player?

Some fans don't realize that NHL teams just don't give things a try. They are able to evaluate a player to high level of accuracy, in when to promote a player, and when not to. They're not infallible and sometimes wrong, but they have a strong idea on a player.

There is a difference between talent, and current ability as it applies to the NHL and the level of play there.

Circumstances may change later in the season to where the team may be more willing to give a player a promotion as a reward and to let him gain some NHL experience.

I don't see how this coach survives past this year. hextall with his love for his young players and spending the time to bring them along slowly and put his process into action, has to be getting irrated now.

The best part, even if you put Ghost back in, you are basically (frank)ing him over right from the get go.

The kid isn't going to excel in a style of play where the coaching staff cuts off his balls and tells him to cut out all creativity.

Must be a fun time for the players as well. Neanderthal hockey.

The Blues are having a miserable season. Underachievers. Their goaltending is putrid though. That said, your scenario is plausible.

Hextall hired him. I get the feeling as Homer may have been too rash, Hex will be a little too patient.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if Hak is let go this off-season but whatever. Every stupid move by Varsity brings it one day closer.

Yes, he has, which is why Hakstol is now trying scratching him for multiple games to see if the player will respond to that. I do not believe his biggest issue is a lack of confidence.

I don't think putting Konecny in the lineup has anything to do with Gostisbehere. I don't see it linked, nor do I see it as any negative vote of confidence towards him.

Gostisbehere will eventually get a chance to redeem himself.

Hakstol is not going to tell Gostisbehere to cut out any creativity. That is an absurd statement.

I wasn't on here last night nor did I read back but JFC I am much happier with the Eagles season than the Falcons season (not which team I would prefer moving forward but just the season). Holy hell if that was the Eagles last night half the city would be on suicide watch

Yeah he's got them playing some creative hockey now. Please. He's a sack of poop coach, and you can defend the organization's every move at any cost as much as you wish.

Irrelevant.

You think that he isn't telling them to play this conservative style? Is Giroux rebelling and telling the boys to do it?

Its irrelevant. Varsity keeps going the way he's going and the odds of him being out sooner go up. Can't (frank)ing wait.

The beauty of railing against a coach is eventually you'll be able to gloat and proclaim to all that you "were right."
