Wouldn't another option be that there is a prearranged deal worked out by the Hawks and Vegas, that Vegas takes a certain player the Hawks want them to take in the expansion draft (June 21st) and a day later the Hawks trade a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the entry level draft (June 23rd) for that same player. So in essence the Hawks would lose a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the expansion draft. (We could argue which player and if it would take a 2nd, or a 3rd, or a 2nd and a 3rd, or two 2nd's.) But my point is more conceptual in nature.

I was actually wondering how that transaction would go down. I can't believe it would just be a draft pick or something just for their word that they wouldn't take a certain player. Would they just trade say the hawks 4th rounder for their 7th rounder and the promise they don't take the guy?

Sorry just seen Doh's comment and maybe that's it.

Just heard from a solid someone who reads here:

"Hawks WILL protect Hartman." He is also not going to be included in any deals.

Just wanted to say that it was nice reading this board and no seeing a lot of bickering and arguing, just a lot of good conversation.

Best news I heard all day!

He is improving and adapting well. If he keeps learning and improving his hockey IQ by playing with guys like Hossa, Kruger, and Toews, he will be a good middle six forward.

Before the season they traded Carlos Lee. Then acquired (via trade or free agent or overseas) pieces like AJ, Iguchi, Pods, Vizciano. I remember telling my son they would be lucky to finish .500. But those guys gelled. And the main thing was that in the playoffs, Contrears, Buerhle, Garland and Garcia (along with Orlando Hernandez in Boston) all pitched their freaking butts off. That 11-1 pitching may be the most dominant post season pitching in MLB history....at least in the modern era. I know that is hyperbole but check out their stats. They were tough in those 12 games.

That said, we are rebuilding. And the Cubs are loaded. Epstein is amazing. Every move they have hit on. I'm not a Cubs fan....but they should be good for awhile and fun to watch.

El Duque was unbelievable in Boston. Rowand was the heart of that team. Williams made a big mistake trading for Thome. I haven't watched baseball for a few seasons and then started watching the Cubs in the summer of 15 - so I've really enjoyed their buildup and run this past fall.

It'll be interesting to see what Hahn does if he's actually given a chance.

Havent heard much about him but has Milan Michalek declined that badly? If the hawks could get him at 50%, not sure if he would be rejuvinated with 19 and 81? Right now Toronto is paying over three million dollars to keep him in the minors. Leafs eat half of his salary and getting maybe a surplus d man may work for both sides.

Thoughts?

He's only played in 16 AHL games, has 5 points, and clearly doesn't want to be there. Hard to say if he's got anything to offer this season.

I dunno how likely JVR is for the Hawks. Toronto is still very much in the playoff picture. I think the Hawks would have to give up someone that the Leafs are high on to make it work. Not saying I know who (if anyone) that would be, but likely the price for JVR would be reasonably high I think.

The more I think about it, I see Tatar coming from Detroit.

It's such a tough call right now because of how tight the race is in the east. I'm sure many teams are hoping for a bit more separation in the playoff race soon, so we can get a few more teams willing to sell.

El Duque's pitching in that inning is one of the greatest things I have ever seen in sports. Unreal...

Protecting Hartman would be my preference too, but that would mean re-signing an RFA or UFA so the team meets the minimum number of qualified forwards to expose.
- DarthKane

Isn't the rule that the team just has to extend a qualifying offer to their RFAs before the expansion draft? That's how it is for goalies for sure, but that's how I've read it elsewhere and falls in line with the whole unsigned RFAs still being eligible to be picked up.

What about Kerby Rychel? LW with some snarl. Thinking the Leafs may be a good trade partner for some reason. Things that make you go hmmmm

I was legit asking because while I remember reading that, I cannot find the QO part for any other position outside of goalies.

I don't know...they are 3rd in the Atlantic and trending up. I can't imagine they would be selling.
