Maybe a steal. But even if he was 6'7" he's not jumping from junior and making an impact in the NHL playoffs this year.
His junior numbers are crazy good, but a lot of "guys" rack u0 big junior numbers and some never even sniff the NHL. Gotta wait and see on him. - John Jaeckel
Agreed. Even his level of success in juniors doesn't necessarily mean he'll be an impact player or even average in the NHL. Still, record-breaking performance is a good thing, and I'll take it.
The, "if only he played left wing" comment wasn't referring to there being any chance of Alex filling the 1LW hole this season. Just a more tongue-in-cheek comment on the dearth of talented true left wingers on the roster in general. |

According to the Athletic his contract is up this season........not idea how KHL free agency works. - eagle50
Its kind of like the NHL. contracts run thru july 1st in the nhl I think I heard they run thru May 1st in the KHL. So technically Sibir would have to let him out of his contract early (assuming they miss the playoffs)

The likelihood of DeBrincat even being available as a call up is in question as Erie is set for a very long run towards the Memorial Cup, pending a major upset. |

So would Chicago be able to just pay Sibir money to get him released?I seem to recall that in some situations this is not allowed but in this case since the hawks hold his NHL right it may be legal? |

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain the Hawks don't hold his rights anymore. |

Isn't Maxim a RW? Not sure how it helps entirely. I wonder if they see him as a staple on the third line or to have an all Russian line?
Really hoping Bowman can trade for a guy like Tatar to help the left side. |

No they still hold his rights because there is no deal between the NHL and the KHL.The trick of buying him out becomes difficult because of his age, since he is of entry level age any money used to get out of his contract would count against his contract.......he would be giving up money to play here......He will be best off waiting until his KHL contract is up if he wants a max entry level deal. |

Not really lets say they sign him this year on his ELC and and of his $925 pro rated ($300K apprx) for the rest of the season. he gives Sibir $100K. he still gets $200K which he would not get this spring and then he would be a RFA next season and could weigh his options between a KHL deal and a NHL deal. IE he would have way more bargaining power once he burns his ELC.

Thanks that makes sense.....could end up costing the Hawks some as he becomes a RFA sooner but I would take that gamble as he is still controlled. |

Good think I started my comment with "I could be wrong"...Just seems odd to me that they'd still hold his rights, but I guess they do. He would be an interesting option, but I wonder if bringing him over for the playoffs (Where Q might bench him) would be a good situation. Sounds like he only wants to come over if he plays and throwing him to the wolves by injecting him for a playoff run could be risky. It'll be interesting to see what the Hawks do. With some of the pieces the Hawks have right now, it seems like next year is gonna be a better year than this year. |

QUESTION REGARDING.........
1st Star: RW Alex DeBrincat, Erie Otters (OHL)
The Line: 3GP, 6G, 5A
DeBrincat's torrid run continued last week as the 2016 second-round pick compiled 11 points in three games, including a five-point outing and a four-point outing on consecutive nights. The 19-year-old has extended his point streak to nine games, compiling 23 points (10G, 13A) over that span. DeBrincat's 44 goals are just seven away from matching his career high of 51, reached in each of the last two seasons, and his 92 points are 10 more than the second-highest scorer in the Ontario Hockey League. His 202 shots on goal rank fifth in the league, and he has gone without a shot on goal in just one of his 45 games this season.
.........IS HE ONE OF THOSE DOMINATING BECAUSE HE IS OLDER THAN EVERYONE JUNIOR PLAYERS OR IS THE KID SPECIAL ? I KNOW HE IS A SMURF BUT HE SEEMS VERY TALENTED. |

Well, he's put up 50+ goals and 100+ points 2 yeas in a row, so I doubt it's his age. Everyone thought it was playing with McDavid when he was 17, but then he did it next season, and this one too.

He is a talented Jr star that may or may not translate well to the NHL. I think if he was special, he would have shown it in preseason or stuck from training camp. I think he is one of those guys who will have to work hard and prove that he can make it despite his small size. |

Please don't include him any deal. I know we need a LW (and 1 other forward , and maybe a D)
We went and got Ladd(which I was all for) last year to play with Toews and he really didn't play his best until he was on a line with Krug and Hossa
think the Hawks should target lesser players who we won'thave to give up our best prospects. Or young players on our roster.

Like JJ mentioned earlier about Saad,he was relatively unnoticeable his first 25 or so games. We wont know what we have until he gets a chance and to me that is one of my favorite things....watching a prospect come up to the big leagues can be very exciting. |

Good read sir...very passionate and to the point. The core group won't play forever...this is why I was so disappointed that Stan didn't get a Dman last season - a missed opportunity for sure.
Love the quote from puckin hostile...
"that line hasn't been the same since Brandon Saad got on a plane to Columbus..."
the Cup window is now - hopefully Stan is going all in. #1lw and #4 dman. We'll see what happens. |

Right, it can be! I just think there is a line between being a good player and being a "special" type of talent. He is a good prospect, but like Saad, probably not one of those special talents. Could become a really solid player in time, but too early to tell. |

maybe they add him as one of the "black aces" so he gets exposure to the team in a playoff environment whether he plays in a game or not. |

Problem is Holland is too in love with his own players and never wants to part with them. He would ask for a ransom for either Tatar or Nyquist, regardless if the team is in a down year or if those players are having down seasons, which they both are |

Too small, too old. The kid will never amount to anything in the NHL. Another wasted pick by Stan.
