Ghost , Coots and a pick?
Not saying I would want to do that as I think that Coots will have more of a normal season for him next year then what he is doing this season just wondering if that is what it would take.. - opeth_pa
I'm not really interested to start with, but I would not pay that much.

To much in my opinion. The only way I included Ghost or even do a trade at all is if the Avs saw him as an integral piece of the trade. |

Really? I'm assessing the situation completely differently.
Duchene is the longest tenured Av currently on the team and has been getting asked about trades for a year and a half now. He didn't get along very well with Patrick Roy and it seems like Sakic is pretty much dead set on catapulting his teams retool by moving him. It's to the point now where Duchene probably just wants to get it over with and get a fresh start anywhere else but in Denver.
Theyll immediately replace him with either Nolan Patrick or Nico Hirschier at the draft. Not to mention they have Tyson Jost who may be on the team as early as next year and definitely will be in 18-19. I'd argue Landeskog is the much more difficult player to replace. I'd also argue you absolutely get more back in a trade with Duchene. - mochoson
See your point about getting the most back, but I think trading him might open up too big of a hole. Read this article yesterday and some good points are put forth. Of note, I'd love to have him. Just don't think ghost only would get him.

That's too much. Ghost and a 2nd maybe. I just don't think hexy will unload d depth until he knows what he has for sure and sees the window open. Really neat to hear homer say that he expects a wave of the young d up next year. Very exciting. Morin sanheim provy ghost. Could be fantastic eventually. |

No, but they do need someone with skating ability who doesn't handle the puck like a grenade.
I think Ghost will always be just an adequate defender. He's proven at times he is capable of playing decent defense. No question it hasn't happened much this year, but I definitely think the Avs would be very interested because of what he brings to the table. I think 29 other teams would be interested in Ghost.
Pair him with Erik Johnson and Zadorov with Barrie. It's a drastically improved D-core already when you realize they're basically adding Johnson too who's been hurt. |

Colorado asks for Provorov+. They could get a better deal elsewhere. |

No doubt. Colorado needs defenseman who can defend well, as well as having an all around game. I don't see Gostisbehere being the kind of defenseman they want to target.

As much as I like a lot of our players provy is the only true untouchable in my mind. A dman with his upside is worth his weight on gold. He could evolve into a lidstrom and I'm not exaggerating. |

The team in general is having a "rough" season. I personally don't think overall he's been as bad as many have made him out to be this year. He's obviously fallen off quite a bit from last year, but I dont think it's been as dramatic a drop off as people are making it out to be.
I would like to see him with Provorov 5v5 and see how that pairing works. I'd like him and Provorov to each run a powerplay unit. - mochoson
His confidence is shot. IMO he needs to work through it. He had the extra jump last year, his confidence was there and he was riding high. Young players have ups and downs, just part of the process. He showed he can play and excel at this level, he will get there. Let him play through this, sitting isn't going to help. |

I gotcha. See, I'm looking at it as they are already filled with holes. Gotta "spend money to make money". Duchene's spot is eventually filled by either Jost and/or Patrick/Hirschier.
The first line of that article pretty much spells it out. This team is as bad as the inaugural Thrashers team. They more than likely won't be good next year either. Whatever hole created by Duchene is irrelevant if they get back the defender(s) they want. The hole created by Duchene will be filled internally, maybe even immediately if they win the lottery and land Patrick.
If they dont, that's like Kane/JVR all over again. While I think Hirschier is going to be a really good player, I'd be pretty upset if I was as bad as the Avs are and end up missing out on Nolan Patrick. |

He's had the opportunity to "play through it" most of the year. I'm absolutely with Hakstol this time. He looked like he belonged on the Phantoms against Carolina. Granted, the entire time looked like hot garbage in that game. But Ghost in particular was atrocious all over the ice. He definitely can use a break. It won't kill him.
Overall though, I'm with you. Believe me. I don't want him sitting long. Only way he gets through these issues is by being on the ice. |

Yeah I got ya. Also, young top d are worth more than forwards. They might be tempted. Neat that they reference the thrashers seeing as how you're a fan hahaa

Thankfully I didn't see the game but it sounds like the whole team could have sat in the press box after that one. Don't have a problem with a game or two, but I don't want to see in one game out the next etc |

This is an excellent point. You can't say oh the teams been better and sit them for like 10 or 15 games. |

Might be a tad of overpayment....but it would take that type of offer.....personally I'd be fine with it...all three guys have had a disappointing season...all three are better. |

Is that all Hextall is trying to build? The Kings emphasize bigger wings that win board battles and move the puck quickly. The Kings got to being a top team by getting bigger and heavier. Chicago not necessarily. Pittsburgh certainly not. The way Hextall has been drafting is making me think he's trying to follow the king model. Signing a player like Weise to a multi-year deal makes me think he's following that model. It's fair to question the future of the smaller players in the organization and how they can fit - Just5
why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't a team build a team with players that fit both molds? Hextall has drafted both. He added Weise, in my opinion, because the team lacks a little size. |

I think it's interesting that the poster states " It's fair to question the future of the smaller players in the organization and how they can fit" when less than a calendar year earlier, they traded a first round pick and late 2nd, to move up to draft a 5-10 175 lb player in the first round. Seems as though that statement wasn't well thought out.
