Could always keep Sbisa and start Joulevi in Utica. I really don't have an issue starting some of our prospects there to start their career. I think it's good for them to have to work their way up instead of having it handed to them. Plus the Utica fans have been pretty awesome. Might as well throw them a few bones and have some of our top picks play down there for a bit. - Mungo
Juolevi is either in nhl or junior.Too young for AHL. |

Doesn't sound like JV wants to listen. Hank criticized him last season about off ice and being professional. It doesn't sound like the Canucks staff were happy at all with how he reported. The coach sure as hell didn't for those weeks he blubbered around on the ice.
Unless they assign him a baby sitter during the summer, how do you control him? I think of other kids we had who took it upon themselves to join camps and hire trainers to improve. Whether they make it in the league or not, they are solely focussed on their career. Sounds like JV is more interested in clubbing. - boonerbuck
Sure, I agree that it is on Jake. That said, don't (frank)ing trot him out to play in the NHL then.
Like I said, mgmt seems to have gotten it now but their "development" of both Jake and McCann were hilariously inept. Do you remember the team stating that they were sitting McCann so he could get gym days in ? |

I remember them sitting him because he was losing weight at an alarming rate last season. Meanwhile, Jake was putting weight on while playing.

Of course. Just need to get through to him. Same problem with Pronger at Jakes age,,, partying and causing poop. A disconnect from the team and angry when people tried to reach out to him. Then there was a break through.
I want a power forward(or two or three). We can draft them but we still have a lot to work with in Jake and he probably starts next season on the Canucks again. Now he knows he has to be committed to make the team. If he is still being a flake after this wake up call... then I'm going to be pretty sour on him. |

So
Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: Forward Jannik Hansen hopes that GM Jim Benning doesn’t ask any Canucks to waive their no-trade causes. Hansen has another year left on his deal and is on the bubble of being protected by the Canucks for the expansion draft. The Canucks would likely protect someone younger than the 31-year old Hansen. The Canucks may not want to lose Hansen for nothing and could look move him before the deadline. Hansen carries a $2.5 million cap hit.

Maybe Vantel was Jakes summer trainer and he's just throwing deflections.

Having trouble finding anything but it was covered in one of Carol's blogs from last June. I remember reading something more current but can't remember the source

I work with a gal who is friends with Jake Virtanen. She grew up with him and they are still in contact.
I asked her what was up with him and if he was a spoiled punk kid growing up. For what its worth, here's her response:
"He worked so hard to get where he is today but once he got there its kinda like he got too comfortable and lost that same fight/dedication he had when we were in school. He's always been well off. His moms a sweetie and they def do spoil him. His dad seems a little more solid on him though. But ya, he's young and started going out a lot and began "living in the fast lane." His snapchats were always of him out at clubs and doing stuff he got in poop for by his coaches." |

From last thread....
It wasn't Burke who put the West Coast Express together. He inherited those guys from Keenan and Quinn. He also didn't draft Ohlund or trade for Jovo. His goalie problems were never solved til Nonis took over. You call it salad from poop? Explain please. Don't go all CNN on us now.

Good things said about him so that is positive.
You are right about having more than one power forward. You always feel braver when you have back up.
Dorsett is a quality guy and missed but even when he is here we need that agressiveness on all lines |

It's the dumb AHL age rules that caused JV and JM to play their 1st years in the NHL, because otherwise they would have been in Jr.
The argument at the time was that they would be better served playing with the big club, against NHL talent and where the team could better keep an eye on development vs playing against boys in Jr.
Same argument will be had with OJ next year.
In hindsight you can argue the decision that was made, but we were all gagging for something to cheer for back then and i don't remember too many naysayers saying they should stay in Jr at the time. |

I have had a few drinks with Jake...nice kid that just got caught up in the bar/women scene. It's tough when you are 20 and loaded |

DD seems like he would be able to provide some mentorship around playing hard every shift, forechecking and fighting too.
Although i still hope that JV develops into a top6 PWF vs a bottom 6.
I want JV to be a mix of DD and Bo in a perfect world. |
