I get your point but Grabs is such a big part of this team right now, I really feel he's the engine that's driving this team, besides Zuc & Kreider is getting there too.

I totally get it. He's the answer to everyone's complaint to trading Hags. And it's working in a huge way. I do not know how to protect the guy from getting selected in the expansion draft, though. One year left at under $2M? And scoring 20+ (will probably hit 30). He's fairly young, too.

Need to somehow get Staal and Girardi to excuse their clauses in their contracts. Not to trade them away, but to expose them int he draft. They will not get selsected, so there is no risk on their part. Time for them to think team first and realize they can't play up to their paychecks demand.

the expansion draft rules are you can protect 7 forwards and 3 defenseman and 1 goalie

he's still the 8th forward on the list regardless of Staal and Girardi waiving

And, there really isn't one of those top 7 forwards on that list that you could really make a good argument should be left unprotected instead of Grabner. Again, maybe if some type of deal is made with one of those 7 going somewhere else, but not if things stay as they are.

Edit: Actually there is one argument that I can make for a player on that list of 7, but I don't think it is great one and I wouldn't want it to be done.

Isn't there an option of a goalie and x-amount of "skaters"?

I think it all comes down to 3 names. Grabner, Holden and Raanta. One of them will go sadly. At least they will be going to the west and will not be constantly in our face.

I remember the rangers had a special about poti before a game. He was walking into a restaurant carrying a 3 ring binder with all the restrictions and recipes and instructions on how to prepare it. It must have taken hours to make him a grilled cheese. Geez

I suggested selling high on Grabner. Didn't get too many that agreed with me...actually no one agreed. He's going to get selected in expansion since there is no way to protect him.

I think Grabner adds a very important element to this team, even if he didn't have this really unexpected goal total.

I don't think that they can protect him over any of the forwards that are put in that protect group (he's the odd man out), but if a trade were to be made with someone upfront heading out, I certainly wouldn't mind protecting him. If not, who do you protect him over?

- Pete V

Ya agreed you cant really protect him over one of the younger guys, but I think you're killing two birds with one stone if you trade miller for Vatanen and then able to protect grabner and keep that speed element that works so well with AV's system

The hole that grabner would leave is bigger than when Hags left

Totally off subject here, but take a look at the Avs team stats. This has to be one of the worst I have seen in a long, long time:

http://www.espn.com/nhl/team/stats/_/name/col

The only positive there is Samuel Henley...played one game, scored one goal on his only shot, and is the only player with a positive plus/minus at +1

No from what I remember he was / is allergic to almost everything. My youngest son has nut allergies have driven to hospital more than once at 100 mph no fun. But poti was so bad everything had to be sterile before you cooked anything he COULD eat because of the danger of cross contamination it really has to be horrible for him. The binder looked like a copy of war and peace!

Jesus. That's a brutal way to have to go through life. I wouldn't even bother going out to eat.

I know one of my younger cousins has (likely) similar allergies to your son. I know the first time it reared its head my uncle was probably driving the same way to the hospital. That stuff is scary.

I think that's why they did it to show how hard it is and also being a professional athlete. I can't imagine what it was like for him on the road :

that would irritate this fan base to no end

but in all seriousness... I know Grabs is the answer for Hagelin but i am really shy to the Miller for Vat trade and protecting Grabs. But in all reality, do we really want to trade away Miller???! I don't see how protecting Grabner will benefit this team in the long run.. maybe short term but this team isn't build defensively for a cup run.

I don't think anyone wants to trade Miller, but guaranteed that's who teams are asking for
