Exactly...

We aren't losing someone we'd prefer to lose. 2 of Cousins/Raffl/Read/Weise/Laughton/Leier will be protected. I'm adding Leier because he's available if we don't protect him. That leaves someone other than who we'd want to lose available for Vegas.

Personally I am not protecting Read being he is a UFA after next season. Not protecting Weise either. that leave 2 between Cousins, Raffl, Laughton and Leier. I would bet Raffl is taken if unprotected. I think they protect him. so that leaves one spot between the 3 young guys. Have to think it comes down to Cousins or Laughton.

What move(s) do you think the Flyers will make the protect Stolarz? Cheap 1-year deal for tweener goalie/cheap 1-year backup?
- jmatchett383

I think if they don't sign Mase or Neuvirth to a short extension before the ED, they would trade for an AHL level goalie and give him an NHL contract for 17-18. the Wild just did that with Stalock (minus the trade part.)

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/alex-stalock

They could do it with Ouellette, but he's ECHL-caliber so they may prefer to get someone better to use one of their 50 contract slots on.

Would not shock me to see them ride Mason from the deadline on and move Stolarz then. Edmonton is likely looking for an upgrade to Gustavsson, I could see the Flyers offering Neuvy to them for Gus and a pick, and then signing Gus to a 1 year 900k deal for 17-18.

With Hart having another year coming in Junior and, according to Bill, Sandstrom likely staying in Sweden one more year, they can waive Gustavsson in the fall and he can join Lyons in LHV next season while Stolarz plays for the big club.

I'd highly doubt Leier gets taken. If LV took Readfl or Weise, I'd be okay with it. I think Raffl gets protected, which leaves one of Cousins or Laughton, and I doubt LV is drooling over either of them.

I think it's imperative to protect Stolarz (make whatever early offseason deals you need to), as he's the most likely to be taken and should be our backup next year. To me, figuring out how to protect him (Neuvy on a cheap 1-year extension?) is the most important part of the ED at the moment.

Honestly I'll be irritated if they lose Stolarz. as long as it takes to develop goalies and as good as he looked, altho small sample size of course, I really would hate to see them lose him. I hope they sign a veteran for 17-18 and protect Stolarz then sign a goalie whether its Neuvirth, Mason or someone else after the expansion draft.

It's not worth the pain of looking at this site on a mobile device

Based on the description I'm imagining Ghost and TK having a playful popcorn fight with each other, and maybe tossing a few kernals out of the box onto unsuspecting fans below (those two are real scamps!)

They still need one goalie who is signed past this season to expose.

I'm confused. Are they trading Stolarz?

There's better goalies out there than Stolie that will be available.
- dragonoffrost

Yes, there will be. But Vegas have to take three goalies, and could take four.

The real question is which player would be more valuable to Vegas?

I love our position for this expansion draft. The next one, we all know another is coming, is the one I'll dread.

No, I need to proofread

I meant trade Neuvirth for a generic backup and a pick, re-sign the back up to a 1 year deal at 950k or less and expose that guy in the waiver draft.

This is what happens when I'm on this site sober.

I think we could make good trade partners with St Louis. St Louis is gonna have a tough time protecting all of their guys..

Okay, that's what i thought. Not to mention you went back for an edit too. But yeah, I'm with this. So basically, you're making Stolarz the backup after the TD?

It'll get a bit easier if they move Shattenkirk for picks and prospects at the deadline.

Stolie will be the protected goalie. I am not 100% sure how Hextall pulls it off but he will get it done.

Here's the funny thing we could protect Stolie, make a handshake deal with Mason on a after the draft signing and back door deal with Vegas to take Neuvirth? They can take a UFA or RFA as their pick from us to get a 7 day exclusive negotiation.

Would depend on who the backup acquired is. I'd probably leave Stolarz in LHV so he gets playing time. The new guy can ride the pines when Mason starts (Which would probably be 19-20 of the remaining 22-23 games anyway) and, since you can expand the roster after the deadline, you could bring Stolarz up to start the other 3-4 games.

At this point, I think it's better for Stolarz to be playing regularly.

7F: Tarasenko, Steen, Fabbri, Stastny, Schwartz
3d: Pietrangelo, Parayko, J-Bo
G: Allen

That leaves 2 forwards. Berglund and Shattenkirk are both moving on. I think they'll be okay.

If I were Vegas I would just take a young RFA forward like Leier or Laughton who can play on my 4th line in 17-18. I wouldn't be too interested in UFA goalies in their late 20s coming off poor seasons.
