For how much we all rip on Weise, I thought he had a strong game. Actually noticed him. Showed some of that physicality we signed up for. Had some scoring opportunities too. One other thing that stuck out, and mono said it last thread, it was nice seeing our core guys out there in the closing minute! We usually don't get ENs either

Missed the game but Really glad to hear this.

It was the first game all season where I noticed him playing with a heartbeat.

Weise has played well away from the puck all season. It was just nice to see him mix in some scoring chances. Offense has been non existent from him all season.

When someone plays well away from the puck usually they are noticeable. I think he has been ok, hasnt been noticeable really at all, all season long.

We have discussed this before, but IMO he needs to play a physical game to be at his best. Do I want him playing like Ryan White? No. But he needs to have an edge to his game in all three zones. He did that last night.

Wayne Simmonds has played 52 games and has 96 hits. Weise has played 42 games, and has 85 hits. Only Simmonds and Schenn among Flyers forwards have been credited with more hits than Weise has.

Great too get the two points....But I'm sure Montreal is calling that game one of their worst efforts of the year. There is still barely anything happening 5 on 5 from an offensive standpoint. But the habs seemed disinterested last night....(boy do they miss Gallagher)... What they did last night was take two of the most offensively gifted players out of the line up and replaced them with less talented guys that don't cheat on the defensive side of the puck.
Both Konecny and Ghost hopefully looked at the simple plays some of these guys made last night....the ones that don't come back to bite ya. They have both shown they are capable of playing smart hockey.
Lets not kid our selves ....the Flyers are a better team with those two playing, but you can't win taking short cuts in this league.

Aside from the win, the best thing for me was Hak breaking up the Manning-Ghost pairing which was leaking goals at an alarming rate. Manning pinches way too much to be a good partner for Ghost. Schultz got his one game in for the month, so Hak will hopefully go with this tomorrow.

Agreed, once Ghost takes all offensive flair out of his game and emulates Nick Schultz, he'll be a much better player for this team's style. Don't ever rush the puck, stay at your own blue line, just chip it out whenever you have it. That's Hak's dream player.

Great post. Now imagine if they can both make the simple play, while mixing in their puck skills and creativity when the time is right. Flyers will be a much better team.

Matt Read catches a lot of poop for a guy leading the team in 5v5 GF% (only skater above 50% besides the small Nick Schultz sample) and CF% this year.

Over his 1+ season here, I don't think Hak has ever made a lineup change after a win, assuming there were no injuries. If he has, he's done it very sparingly.

I think overall Weise has sucked this year. He has not been a factor in any of the games. He is a better hockey player then what he has showed this year. Hopefully a few games off has helped as he seemed more in to it last night....still not what I expected when he was signed.

One of the things about guys like Gostisbehere is that he's got to take chances at times to be effective. Sometimes, you're gonna get burned on them. I agree that it's been too famine and too little feast lately, but he's always gonna be a guy who's gonna have a few plays come back and bite him in the ass. The hope is that more go in his favor, that just hasn't been the case lately.

Im not strictly speaking about hits.. im talking about the way he plays the game. Being aggressive at all times. You throw three hits a game and but arent hawking the puck down or into the play and all of sudden his hits go to 126 in 42 games... doesnt mean he is playing more aggressively... he just is getting credited with more hits.

I wanna see what we saw last night. He was attacking the puck. He wasnt just finishing checks.

Also, Bill said in the blog it was G who got hooked on that partial breakaway, but wasnt it Weise?

Didnt they win last time Ghost was scratched and he got put back in?

They really need to trade a defenseman

Dude.. he has 1 goal since mid november. Forget the advanced metrics and look at his actual production. He hasnt been cutting it for nearly 3 months.

Sorry but the bolded part really isn't true. He was awful at pretty much everything the first couple of months of the season, and then started playing better away from the puck. However, it all comes down to the contract in a league with a salary cap. At 4 years, and 2.35 million per, he needs to chip in at the very least 10+ goals and 20+ points or he is simply not succeeding in his role. 2 goals and 5 points in 42 games is pathetic.

Ghost re-entered the lineup the following game after his first scratch this year. They won the game he was scratched. But yes, its rare.
