Everybody ices the best team possible and let the cards fall where they may. Tanking goes against the spirit of sports. If you play pick up with some friends do you say to yourselves " hey let's loose this game on purpose"?

As they say, get yourself the playoffs and anything can happen. 3 of the last 5 cup winners finished 3rd in their division.

It's great when you're drafting lottery picks but eventually you get better and may get stuck in the bubble position, drafting 3rd and 4th liners year after year.

This message for the Oilers? or some other team like the Sabres? We really only tanked on purpose the last two seasons lol. It just so happens our last 3 first round picks are all tearing it up in the NHL, which is very rare.

The Leafs did everything that they needed to do to perfection the last 18 months. They'll probably continue to make the right decisions. The Leafs needed those high draft picks, so went and got them. If the league wants to put these stupid " you get to draft the best players because you are poop" rule in, take advantage of it.

I think they're a team that thought they could afford to move their centers and forwards in general because they had so many, kind of like Leaf fans who think trading Nylander or JVR is a good idea, because of all the forwards we supposedly have coming. So they tried trading for a younger centre and a young emerging d in one of those deals, giving up a sure thing centre (of course they also got (frank)ed by Calgary with the offer sheet sort of),. They also felt Shattenkirk wasn't a #1 dman so they traded for what they thought was a top d-man in Erik Johnson.

There are a lot of lessons from Colorado to be learned.

Chicago has managed to keep together Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith and Seabrook for years. I can't see why Toronto can't keep Nylander, Matthews, Marner and Rielly together for years too.

Cap tricks on Hossa and Seabrook/Keith? that resulted in rule changes. Will be tougher to pay max money to two players and remain competitive.

it is rare (though we had some accidental tank years). and rielly working out at number 5 is huge too.

la had kopitar and doughty but wiffed on hickey at #3.

Hawks had our kind of draft luck with a lotto win for kane and pitts passing on toews for staal…but also missed on cam barker and jack skille in the top 10.

Long-term we are set-up great…regardless of what happens this season.

But that also involves continuing to draft players that can be super useful rookies.

Lets hope that they can keep doing that.

Yes. I also hope they continue to draft good players.

Looks like Adam Brooks could be the second coming of Connor Brown.

leafs best chance to win is going to be years 4-9ish for matthews, marner and nylander

contracts will be reasonable still and they'll all be really hitting their stride in the nhl (hopefully).

Absolutely, Boston game is huge. They lose and that negates most of the games in hand. If they win it narrows the gap with lots of games in hand.
- bryant

If the Bruins win they are 5 points up with 5 games in hand.(wouldn't actually level the playing field) but it would give the Bruins some control over thier fate.

If the Leafs win they are 1 point behind the Bruins with 5 games in hand. It's early but it would pretty much take the Bruins out of playoff consideration unless they go on a run.

(frank), I don't know. I came here to suggest we all Skype with our cocks out, saw Fakepartofme's post and wondered, if your team is the worst in the league how a quick rebuild is even possible?

I'm usually a one post and done kind of guy.

Shattenkirk is a great fit on the Leafs.

If the Leafs could trade for him and he would sign a decent deal I think I would do it.
