Considering it's usually the players who block him out, turn on him and get him fired over and over... not here please.
- boonerbuck

But he's one of the winningest coaches in history, it's his playoff record that's somewhat suspect.

Not happening anyways.

We ran AV out of town he takes his new team to the cup .

We run Torts out he takes a bottom team to the top.

Maybe the problem is our team

- VANTEL

No Torts is a ass-hat who has gone to a team that was under performing. Kudos to him for getting them focused or whatever.

Show me a good coach and I'll show you a good goalie.

All that said the team is the problem, torts just made it worse when he was here.

A big loss would help the Team Tank gain some momentum.

Brent burns with 4 points tonight.

If you look at the draft and JB's assessment there is no point to tanking this season as no signature players are available. You are cheering for something that has no meaning this season.

awesome. Right on cue.

It was a weird arrangement from the start of the season. You hire a head coach to replace one but not until the end of the season? Firing Hitchcock just gave him an early retirement package.

I can't even comprehend a defenseman scoring that frequently. Mind blowing
- CanuckDon

There was a time when Burns was attainable for a very reasonable price. You couldn't get anyone here to bite on the idea of making a trade for him. Cries of "he's a bum they need to play as a forward.. we don't need that".

I admit, I was only thinking of some PP help and was willing to suffer through his deficiencies. Now he carries his team.

There were definitely skepticism over Larsen. Guys posted that former Canuck Cam Barker led the KHL defense in scoring a few times, but the hope was that he would just be a better option than Bart, Weber, Biega until we could groom our next D. What was unexpected is the performances of Stecher and Tryamkin and the opportunity to trade for Gudbranson.

I think JB was in the position to take risks, he had a bare cupboard and saw the potential to trade a low-expectation draft pick for a player that could become a decent asset. I think now that our prospect pool is looking more solid, there is less of a need to take those gambles and use the injury opportunities to give AHL guys a chance

I think you and Belch are right. I'm just being overly critical of the kid. I'm still old school in the fact that I want to see a big, punishing d-core. Not a bunch of kids that can get knocked cold by Taylor Hall.

You do realize it's not the same team as when they were here. So don't get the relevancy of comparison for the present.

Panarin, Radulov, Zaitsev are all examples of guys coming back after tearing up the KHL this year. Obviously these are guys who have worked out but yes in short tearing up the KHL is a benchmark. It doesn't guarantee success but it is definitly worth paying attention to.

I haven't watch the Torres hit on Seabrook recently but I seem to remember that he didn't get a suspension because Seabrook had his head down looking for the puck as well. Good players still get caught watching sometimes.

I also hope JB gives me more than just gambles and have been pretty critical of his trade picks for older gambles mostly because we were trading something that had decent potential. I don't view a 5th as having much potential.

- belcherbd

Trading a 5th arguement accepted. As I said, just being critical. But I don't like Larsen or the KHL so we'll have to disagree.

But I won't hold it against you. We'll still share the potato salad at the picnic.

No.

Different type of coach all together. Hitch is considered a top flight coach.

Torts is considered a top flight a-hole.

- bloatedmosquito

Torts has a great record with young players and is on fire right now. Hitchcock is a smart coach but is also a giant a hole who suffocates young players. He has been under achieving since the 90's as well.

I'd much rather have Torts handle our young players if that is the sole purpose of choosing between the two.

I'm not interested in replacing WD with Hitchcock at all.

The main part of the core has been through all three coaches and same style of play

I love when you get the itch to be embarrassed. Three pages or less from now you won't even be talking about hockey. You will be crying about me.

Intentional tanking for sure is unnecessary. The teams poor quality will drag itself down into lotto country very soon. Still a bottom 5 team in the league. Played there hearts out , we'll beyond expectation, but the overall lack of talent, increased intensity from the competition chasing there own playoff dreams and a schedule that frankly has propped them up for the last 6 weeks will ultimately return the pretenders to there rightful position... still bottom five. Now granted there is no McDavid so to speak in this class.. . But there are plenty of good players and the simple math remains , the more often you pick high in every round of the draft...ie 5 th overall is 5th in every round, then the overall quality of every pick is an improvement in itself

Booners great, I like him, in fact, I like everyone here, although there's some HUGE flaming Nuck fans in here that give out participation awards to their kids and they're creating societies next great problem.

They, apparently, don't like me

No, I'm not either. Just threw it out there.

But I do think a more senior coach with a bit more clout would be better for this team considering the competency of the owner, prez, gm, captain, etc.

That only applies to Sedins and Edler as core. Burr and Hansen switched core positions. But again 4 players don't make the team. You have noted yourself how much this team has changed. With more coming. As much as you like to poke the Sedins they were not the problem then or now. They may not be your desired type of player but they help not hinder team development.
