Is Gilbert any good?
Why'd he get out on waivers?

a 7 million dollar center should never go 24 straight games w/o a goal
- homiedclown

How about Anze Kopitar and his whopping 6 goals this year at $10M?

Per Foxsports.com

First off, the 34-year-old doesn’t have too much left in the tank. Despite his perfect frame, he lacks physicality, and his ability on the backend has declined over time. Additionally, Gilbert struggles when it comes to maintaining possession; he often turns over the puck, which puts his team in trouble. Overall, they usually spend more time in their own zone when Gilbert’s on the ice.

Well unless ppl want him traded...
or wanna say we shouldn't have made the trade to begin with...
then all this talk about him seems pointless to me

O'Reilly is what he is
20 something goals
60 something points

Faceoffs, solid defenseively, all around good player

If ppl expect him to score 30goals & put up 80pts...
I just don't see it happening
And idk why they should expect that?

- jdfitz77

Reason why it's getting mentioned is because he's not hitting either of those benchmarks this year. Injury is a major reason, but again, like Risto, after his great start last year, his production dropped off considerably.

In fact, I think he has under 15 goals over his last 70 games or so dating back to last year.

We have already went over how Reinhart "does all the little things" as well, as an excuse for his lack of goals.

Are we literally just going to rely on Eichel to score a lot of goals for this team?

The top 30 paid centers are $6m or more. Out of the top 30, ROR is the 6th youngest and signed on a long term deal. There are 14 over the age of 30 and of all the centers on the list, only Kessler plays more minutes. I think he is on a good deal considering the cap will likely continue to rise as well as the players contracts.

Kopitar's deal was a reward for winning two cups.

Just like Toews.

I have no way to know this or verify its accuracy, but I believe when his TOI declines from the crazy levels it is at now, his production will rise a bit.

I think we can all agree it is never a good idea to reward players based on past accomplishments, especially when that usually takes place when they are already on the decline.

That aside, 6 goals for $10M is horrifying.

where does bailey, nylander and baptiste fit with the big club this fall?
- homiedclown

Tough to say
Bailey & Baptiste are probably ready
Nylander might need more time. I believe his brother played 2 seasons in the AHL, or at least started the 2nd season down there.
Fasching & Carrier should be in this group as well...

But do we bring back Gionta?
Does a forward get claimed by Vegas?
Do we trade Kane, Ennis, Girgensons or anyone else?

Too many unanswered questions to really have an idea

This year it's 61pts per 82 games

Nylander-Eichel-Reinhart
Ennis-Oreilly-Okposo
Kane-Girgensons-Bailey
Foligno-Larsson-Bap
Carrier

Pay Vegas to take Moulson.

If Ennis is gone or Nylander still isn't ready, rotate guys into the top 6.

Am I crazy to think I'd rather have O'Reilly and his contract then either Kopitar or Toews?

Add:
Last three years
Toews PPG - .745
ROR PPG - .75

Should I make a list of all the lower profile players who have as many or more than Reinhart?

Rackell
Atkinson
Pastrnak
Trochek
Eaves
Maroon
Sheary
Lee
Zucker
Joahnnson
Marchessault
Aho
Backlund
Byron
Arvidsson

What exactly does this mean?

I'd rather have ROR probably because of age.

Difference is those two were rewarded for past accomplishments

ROR was paid to accomplish.

Reinhart's not a 30 goal scorer
Not in his 2nd year anyways
He's a good player
Just like Getzlaf, Perry, Toews and all the other guys I listed
Just like O'Reilly is

It means u need to realize that goals don't come easy in the league & you're expectations aren't realistic

What expectations? To score more than 2 goals in 18 games? If that's unrealistic than ok, we disagree.

Most likely, but until he's gone, he needs to be penciled in. You can't have 10 million in Moulson and Ennis and not play them.

That's a stupidly small sample size
Even Crosby has slumps!

So yeah...
expecting that O'Reilly won't have them is unrealistic

What really upsets me is seeing teams that are in the top-8 in their conference fire their coach because it's just not good enough.

Then seeing a team in last place fire their coach and go on a tear and sit 3 points out of 8th place only a week (well with the all-star break, two) later.

And I'm a Buffalo Sabres fan who's only consolation is my other team, Columbus, is actually great this year, which isn't normal for them.
