Giroux is an old washed up drunk who has nothing left to give and does not put any effort on the ice.

The Blue goalie coach is getting fired, too.

His name is Jim Corsi.

There's a quote on CSNphilly.com where Streit said the team has to be "more mature" to make the playoffs. That quote makes me think of the 'behind the scenes' reasons they got rid of Richards and Carter- the partying and not entirely buying into the coaching.

Does anyone know, are we starting to hear rumblings of stuff like that? Is Streit trying to say something without really coming out and saying something? Does anyone know?

- Neomike77

Just as in my opinion the behind the scenes reasons had zero to do with why they traded Richards and Carter, I can confidently say that has zero to do with it now.

In my opinion what Streit means is that you have to show up ready to play for every game, at the opening puck drop.

I am seriously concerned Giroux is so worn down. he is only 29 but he doesn't look to be close to the player he was 2-3 years ago.

as far as people calling for Giroux to be traded, the Flyers had a 23 yo Giroux on the team when they moved Carter and Richards. they still had Briere. and of course using one of the picks they ended up having an 18 yo Coots the next season. they were very strong up the middle and could afford to move them to get help elsewhere.

Given the Flyers moved 2 minutes closer to midnight on a UFA fire sale last night, what's everyone's over/under on the expected values for a team to get a deal done on the following players:

Mason-2nd Round Pick
Neuvirth-2nd Round Pick
Streit-3rd Round Pick
Del Zotto-3rd Round Pick
Bellemare-4th Round Pick
Schultz-6th Round Pick
Vandevelde-6th Round Pick

For the record, out of these players, I don't think they should trade Mason. Del Zotto should be getting one of his final shots to show he's worth hanging onto past the deadline.

I don't know if you could trade him....with the contract and the compensation not matching. To me he hasn't been the same guy the last 18 months. I still believe he has it in him to get back to that next level, but his days of being able to carry the team are likely over.
There is no reason Giroux can't still be a top player, although his prime may have just slipped by.

Yeah, good points. We really miss having a pure sniper that could consistently bury it on a consistent basis. It would really help take the load off G and V. Not long ago, we had a lot more depth and skill on forward with Danny, harts, Jagr. Now we've plugged those holes with the likes of Raffl, Read Bellemare cousins. It's asking too much of them and as a consequence asking too much of Schenn, Coots, G and V..

The only possibilities I can think of WRT G is that he's either still recovering from injuries from last year, re injured/injured, or is steering away from high traffic areas so as not to get hurt. He really brings no level of compete or drive to the net anymore.

So where does it come from? I know people talk about the coach having a team ready to play but for me I think the onus is on the leadership group and more so the captain.

Even if not scoring he needs to at leats show an effort. They won absolutely zero battles last night. They looked like an old slow team. They forecheck and seem to get there after the puck is already gone.

Now last night wasn't solely on him since I think everyone was awful. But again he just seems to be a no show far too often, especially when the team is in need of his leadership.

The Flyers should have seen this coming. They committed too much money to too many forwards on a team that wasn't going to truly be a contender for a long time. God help us if they re-sign Simmonds to some enormous contract after next season.
