He would sign the question is the dollar figure. Tatar I could argue is a better UFA target than anyone who was on the market last year. I don't know if signing Tatar is worth 6+ a year (which he could likely get UFA) or if Tatar would take a discount to sign a year earlier and to play for pittsburgh. That 1 year of RFA control isn't a ton of leverage to force a discount price. - sditulli
I dunno man, I think you're grasping at straws here personally. 4.5mil x 5 years would likely get it done. Coming in as an RFA, chance to play with Sid/Geno and with good chance at the cup... comparable contracts I'd look at the Mike Hoffman, Alex Killorn, Kyle Palmieri, Chris Kreider'ish contracts. Highly doubt he gets 6+ a year, and I don't even think 4.5-5x5 is a discount price. It's a fair deal. |

Hoffman is only contract that supports your thesis. 1 year of rfa plus 3 ufa years at about 5.2/year. He's a slightly better player. 2 years of inflation in players salaries though (if you assume league revenue/canadian dollar goes up should be about 7-8% higher salary). Cancel out the better player and inflation then 5.2 per year on 4 should be fair. Hoffman was the cheapest deal of those guys.
Killorn isn't a good comp. Killorn isn't true top 6. Inferior player especially as goal scorer. 4.5 per year. MASSIVE TERM. Killorn implies Tatar will take 7 year deal worth 5.5 to 6.
Palmieri isn't a comp. RFA deal mostly. 5 year deal. 3RFA years. 2 UFA years. 4.5 per year. Signed after only 1 good year. Palmier deal implies Tatar deal would be 5 years 30 million.
I'd say Tatar is about close to Lucic or Ericcson. Maybe a little worse but not much. All imply 6 per year UFA. |

Actually wasn't much of a thesis, I was just looking at players cap hits, age, and production, much like I did when I was projecting Murray's new deal (which I was spot on with.) You also did much more digging than I did. Ya might be right, I'll be the first to admit it if I'm wrong, but I'd be extremely surprised if Tatar got 6 million a year. |

Some good news, Daniel Sprong has been actually playing with Charlottetown. He has 9 points in 10 games on a pretty weak squad. He will be available for the playoff run if we need him due to injury. And he will be in the NHL next season finally. |

I'd gladly take DP, a 1st, and a Blueger/Bjorkvist type prospect for Tatar. - Feds91Stammer
No, too much. Not ready to give up on Pouliot, 1st round picks are too valuable and Blueger has been slow to develop but he is playing well now and Bjotkvist is an unknown at this point. Would like to see what we have there next year. How are we going to protect Tatar in the expansion draft with everyone else that needs protection? Maybe in the offseason I would make a counter offer but not now. |

We have him for 1 Rfa year. I'd consider okposo 7 year 42 deal would be a good comp for what he would look for on ufa deal. While also signing 2 years later with cap up 7-8%. 1 year piling up point with Crosby would boost his ufa deal. |

He needs a new contract after this season. He's not gonna sign a 1 year deal just to get to ufa. He's gonna sign a 5-6 year deal to get paid. |

Rutherford will pull the trigger on that deal as fast as he can pull his flip-phone out of his pocket. |

Uhh... Sid, Geno, Kessel, Tatar, Hagelin/Hornqvist, whatever other 2 forwards float your boat. And then letang, maatta, dumo... that was pretty easy. |
