What the hell was Holland smoking to give a 32 year old Frans Nielsen $5.25 for 6 years? - madmike71
Same poop he's been smoking for years. Dude gave Luke (frank)ing Glendening a 4 year extension when his current deal isn't even up. |

Those guys are all untradeable. By the time the rebuild is done and they are ready to compete Tatar would be 30. Might as well gather up as many young resources as possible now. - Feds91Stammer
Untradeable... Yeah probably. You might get a taker if you eat a bunch of contract for a couple of them.
I understand your point, I just feel your undervaluing Tatar's value. If I'm Holland, I'm asking for Sprong, 1st and either Jarry or Sundqvist. |
|
|
|
I'd gladly take DP, a 1st, and a Blueger/Bjorkvist type prospect for Tatar. - Feds91Stammer
I think that's a pretty accurate price and I know I said in the last thread that I would not part with Sprong or Guentzel for Tatar but this is a deal I would do, even though I think you're assessment of Tatar being an "elite" 2-way forward is a bit of an exaggeration.

Tatar is my favorite player but the thing is DET undervalues him. Him along with Nyquist are always the scapegoats when they lose. At this point I just want some young assets and to see Tatar play somewhere that isn't a complete poopshow. |

He was Sportsnet's no. 4 LW in the NHL coming into this season
He doesn’t get the credit, but Tomas Tatar is the best player on the Detroit Red Wings these days and the best transition winger in the NHL, to boot. Tatar’s silky smooth hands and skating ability allow him to weave his way through the ice with ease, and if he can’t find open ice, he’s also one of the most adept passers in the NHL. Adding to his strong transition play, Tatar is an above average first line defensive player, and strong scorer.

He would slot in our top 6 immediately. If I'm Ruth, I don't trade Sprong and I'd be loath to part with Jarry. I have no problem giving up a 1st. I don't want to trade Guentzal, but I would for the right return. |

its Tatar only left wing? Or can he play both sides? Getting Tatar for that package you mentioned earlier could actually allow you to flip hornqvist for a good dman or trade him in the offseason |

Primarily plays the left side but he would instantly be your best LW |

Sheary, Tatar, Hags, Kunitz, shift Guentzel to 3C. |

I don't hate that. But you would agree you can only do that deal if you have a long-term contract in place. 1 year of RFA control isn't worth it. |

I haven't seen enough of either to really develop my own opinion. So all I can go by is what others have said/written. Sprong is a true sniper. I've seen that myself. He's a little bigger too.
You have to give to get. To get a player of that caliber, it's going to sting.

And why wouldn't Tatar sign a 5 year deal wit PIT? |

Yeah, I'm just of the mindset, with Sid and Geno getting older, I'd rather acquire a bonafide top 6 for the next 3-5 years than hope a prospect pans out in 2-3 years. |

To do that, you're looking at parting with one or the other. I think teams will ask for Sprong.
Just reading some of Rutherford's comments... I don't think he trades him. Thinks he's going to be a star.

Yeah, its a move I make without thinking twice. He COULD be a star, but Tatar is already a stud. It's similar to Kapanan+ for Kessel. |

These were comments before Sprong was hurt. There's a reason he made the team out of camp. Rutherford was pissed that Johnston didn't give him a shot.
Anyway... Yeah, I'd probably move him in a deal for Tatar if push came to shove. I'd also offer up a 1st, but I'm not sure I'd include any of our other top prospects. Blueger...sure.
Doesn't really matter 'cause Stammer ain't Holland. |

Their metrics are pretty similar, but I think Tatar is better defensively. |

He would sign the question is the dollar figure. Tatar I could argue is a better UFA target than anyone who was on the market last year. I don't know if signing Tatar is worth 6+ a year (which he could likely get UFA) or if Tatar would take a discount to sign a year earlier and to play for pittsburgh. That 1 year of RFA control isn't a ton of leverage to force a discount price. |
