Not a problem.
Simply add Subban to the mix for great results. |

Am I the only 1 that sees a perfect deal with DAL shaping up?
Miller and Hansen for Niemi, Hemsky a high pick (1st or 2nd rd), and the rights to Nichushkin...I know Nichushkin has attitude issues but give him a year or 2 he may come around. Showed flashes in DAL.
DAL gets a more reliable goalie for a playoff run, and a much more effective point getter at this stage of his career and more speed to keep up with Benn and Seguin. Their window is about to slam shut on them so it's now or never...
We take salary for a year (Niemi) and get another high pick (that hopefully Benning won't waste) and a potential power forward who can pop in 20 - 25 goals. After next year Demko will probably be close to ready anyways, so Markstrom/Niemi tandem for 1 year... - c_roy33
Aside from there apparently being an ownership feud/rivalry and the Hamhuis thing last year, I think Miller in St.Louis has given him a non-playoff stigma. If they were to give up that package (first rounder and the Nichushkin rights), I think Tampa or Pitt have better goalies to move for the expansion draft and would probably be able to work the cap thing out
I also think Nichushkin signed in KHL for 2 years in the summer, not that it would matter to most, joint pointing it out that he is another year away from returning |

Good points re ownership and Miller's past playoff performances (although i'm not sure i buythat).
Part of the appeal of the trade from Dallas' pov has to be that they get rid of one of their overpriced/underperforming goalies for next year (something we could afford to take on with Markstrom in the wings, followed by Demko)...
so rights to Nickushkin (who may never come back to Dallas), plus moving an anchor in Niemi for a goalie that is pretty hot at the moment. |

Not to mention getting rid of Hemsky who has been an awesome disappointment for them. Although it is the last year of his contract anyways...but I believe Hansen would be a great fit there. He has to be enticing for them at that salary.
I definitely agree it would be more like a 2nd on that deal but who knows. Benning could never pull it off anyways |

I dont buy the past performance thing either, but from a few things I have read in the past couple years, its apparently a real thing in the NHL circles.
I do think its a good thing for Van to pursue, I just think Dallas unfortunately has options. Pitt has Fluery/Murray and TBay has Valislevski/Bishop to deal with, cant protect both in the draft and would IMO be bigger upgrades in net than Miller. Niemi/Lehtonen would be also decent tandems partners for those teams if they go unclaimed by Vegas, that all being said cap would be the tough part to make work. If Van can do it, possibly by taking another bad contract (as per the original post) I would |

I don't mind either way. If we lose we get a higher pick if we win we get to see more Canucks . Sort of a win win - VANTEL
Most sensible thing I have seen posted about how to view rest of Canucks season. |

Him being signed for another year definitely has to be a part of the appeal for Dallas. They might not be good enough to make the playoffs this year, but get Hansen and offload some money for the offseason (to go after say Bishop) and make a quick retool/adjustment |

They are the exact opposite, that offer is as much of an underpayment as the other was an overpayment. |

Actually I agree there are better options. If we aren't getting Patrick I want Cal Foote…build this team properly from Demko->out and we are good to go. |

I have a feeling this year won't be the worst year next year will be. So stock up on decent prospects so that the year after when Van get's a top 3 pick they have a few prospects that are older and help out the superstar 18 year old. |

I would keep my eye on Ratcliffe for a second round pick |

They are doing profiles on the players I want during the first intermission. I'm pretty sure the 4 players I wanted won't be top 15 picks but will probably be somewhere from 20-50. Van currently only has 1 pick in there. |

You may be undervaluing Hansen here. Plus Nuchuskin isn't a solid asset. He's unproven and unknown if he'll come back. Rights to a player not committed to playing in the NHL and unsigned is a gamble.
So a 1st from Dallas is a reasonable expectation for giving up 2 solid vet players for a bad contract poor playing one and unknown return of an unproven player. Though I wonder D may want Sbisa as well. That second may be appropriate then.
What this would mean if Canucks sold like this is giving up on the season and allowing Dallas to make a run for playoffs. |
