keep the first rounder, and move up to pick a second time in the 1st round
- YuenglingJagr

I'm always good with moving up for a coveted player, as you know, especially if your cupboard is pretty stacked in depth but needs another oomph piece. Which is how I'd characterize this team. I should hope the Flyers find a way to get another 2nd and 3rd rounder or something, perhaps for someone like Streit, so they can still trade up and not deplete their picks. I'd be disappointed if we don't add another 2nd at least.

This draft is weird though imo. The top couple picks are definitely more average top picks, but there's still a lot of good talent in and around the top 10. But, at least to my eye with a lot of season left, it really drops off after that around the low teens into a giant group all jockeying with each other. I honestly don't think, individual players or fallers aside, that picking, say, 13 is a whole lot different than 30. It's why I'd be hesitant to trade back up into the 1st or something, or early 2nd and expend an asset. I don't think the player class actually is increasing. I'd rather just increase the quantity at that point, where drafts tend to stabilize and try to get as many lottery tickets as possible. Like look, at a slightly lesser scale, at last year's 1st round around and after Rubtsov. Then look through the entire 2nd. Pretty much no change in quality and almost counter productive.

Where I will also disagree is that there are a few players who might go around the top 10, certainly within trading distance if we're talking about adding a couple 2nds or something feasible, that spark my interest. The names Martin Necas and Elias Pettersson stand out as guys who might be worth doing this for. They're guys who could sneak top 5-10, but could also be there at 10+. There's some lack of consensus. If the Flyers view them as elite prospects worth gambling for, then do it. That's the trade I'd like to see, not adding another late 1st/early 2nd when there's not much separation between the pick(s) traded and the pick acquired.

Replying for a different reason.

Like I said, the reason I use them for mostly is sustainability.

As an example you can use Ghost. Using plenty of data available, you could see that while he was doing a lot of things great, he was simply scoring at historic and beyond sustainable rates. Clearly producing above levels that would continue. Same thing is happening now with opposite effect.

Another example, one that is more "complete"...Vandevelde. Remember all the fun we had with him scoring 5 goals and producing more than blah blah blah. "His production was great from a 4th liner and he wasn't a problem." Wasn't hard to see how unsustainable and lucky his numbers were, and low and behold, we are about to hit 25 games without a goal.

I watch him and think he sucks, and I see he sucks by the numbers, but neither were used in determining that his offensive production was completely unrealistic.

I believe Lappy within the late stages of his final year as an NHLer and a Flyer scored two goals. Just two. I think we expected him to step in and play on the third line, which he couldn't and help on faceoffs, which I don't think he took any. With this said, he was great at what he did. All of his lack of anything were washed away because he could stand up for a teammate or block a puck with teeth. He was willing to do what he could to help out his team. Vandevelde is just here. He does absolutely nothing special and he's been in the NHL for three seasons too long.

I honestly had absolutely no idea who he was at the time lol

I don't recall being particularly picky though. I wanted to move up into the top 15.

You'd be wrong, wasn't the 1st choice but was hardly in the line of those who didn't want him

Well considering your list is 200 strong, I'm sure he was on there lol. But I remember you worrying about the meldonium and preferring someone like Max Jones or a pure scorer. I don't know who actively didn't want him and disliked him because it's not like anyone saw much or any of him. They just weren't thrilled with the pick in and of itself.

It's not like he's playing in the top 6 for the Flyers. Either one of them.

I think we're still in the "let's see how it plays out." Obviously rooting for him to succeed.

Saw Wade Allison this weekend. He looked okay. He was front and center for what seemed like a 30 minute review when he went off side prior to a goal.
