I think Foligno has been great for us this year. He's been able to help contribute offensively, and he's been the physical presence they need out there. He's been a force all season, whether it's just in the checking game or dropping the gloves. He's done it all.

With Foligno playing on the top line it has to make you wonder. Is this rewarding him for having a good season? Is this showcasing him for a trade? Or is it just because we have no one else to play there? If they don't trade him, he (his agent) may look for a bigger raise than we would expect and use his 1st line minutes as a bargaining chip. I like him though and think he is worth more than what we would get in return.

I think we are fine at lw if they keep kane long term

nylander, kane and 2 out of these 3 ennis, foligno, carrier

that leaves one to be moved for d help

centers
ror, eichel, the new girgens, we are set at center

4th liner may be needed, if larsson is moved/picked in expansion draft

rw
okposo, reinhart, baliey, baptiste, fasching
plus gionta back for 1 year, if sabres want him

based on this one prosects (bailey, baptiste, fasching) can be moved to fix the d

problem is I don't see ennis and one of those prospects getting us back a top 3 d man but I could be wrong

I know kane's on a tear but reality is nobody other than reinhart/nylander brings back a true top 3 d-man.

They'll have to be open to building a package around their first rounder.

i agree with this, kane might be able to bring back a scratch and dent though- maybe a little older guy or on a less favorable contract. anybody else that we would trade, there would be a lottery ticket coming back.

The only other issue with kane is the contract status. $$ value to role aside, are they prepared to extend him long term at his current rate or higher?

it goes beyond just its value. Even if they go on a run in the 2nd half the first rounder will 100% be a must include in any deal bringing back a top 3 guy. Although, the higher it is the less assets we'd have to give up on top of it.

Yep. I don't think next year's first will have any real value. Must use it to our advantage this year

ESPN hired Rex Ryan for the super bowl coverage

I severely doubt it. He's 5th on the current forward pecking order, are you gonna pay him 5-6 mil a year when 21,90, 15, and 23 will be making more or close to it soon?

Honestly, It all depends on how much the cap rises the next year or two. If it goes up by $3-5MM in that time frame it should cover it.

Sure, but that also would have an effect on what 15,23 get paid, as well as how much 9 might ask for.

I just can't see a guy who's played his best hockey away from our top 2 centers getting a big contract.

I would love it if Eichel got an O'Reilly value contract.

Reinhart I would put him on the same contract as a Monahan or Scheiflei. ~$6.2MM AAV. hopefully a little less. Maybe a current Tavares contract.

I think the willingness and dollar value for his (Kane's) next contract will be completely dependent on the potential teams he will be traded to.

IMO unless 23 has a huge year next year, he signs a 2-year bridge at like 5-5.5

Eichel signs a 5-6 year 7 mil deal, and then signs the mega deal at 26-27 years old. Similar to Kane/Toews Crosby etc

Sadly, I think he gets what McDavid gets or close to it.

McDavid sets the market for Jack, in my (terrible) opinion.

No way, I love Jack but McDavid is already over a ppg player for his career and he should end up winning the Art Ross this year. Jack is not on that level at least not yet.
