Sabres February schedule

NYR
Ottawa
@NJ
San Jose
Anaheim
@Toronto
Vancouver
@Ottawa
Colorado
St. Louis
Chicago
@Colorado
@Arizona
Nashville

How many points do they get? Do they stay in the playoff race on March 1st and are they sellers or buyers at the deadline?

- mhp

I think we'll be sellers by 3/1. This is a tough schedule outside of COL and AZ. Things could go south fast. Still think we'll be about .500, but that won't be enough to get us closer so sellers it is.

Edit: STL, Chicago, San Jose and Anaheim are all probably losses. We don't do well against NJ or TO this year. Ottawa are playing good hockey too. Is there any chance we're buyers?

I see us winning half of those games but it still won't be enough. We'll be sellers but I can also see making a trade with a team to get a player that they might not be able to protect. Or more likely that trade would happen after the season is over. At the deadline I see us only getting picks and prospects.

Would be interesting if Murray is thinking about something now to try to get us over the top. A decent winger or 4C wouldn't be a horrible addition if the price of defenders is too high. I read somewhere he's going to be trying to focus on getting prospects in return vs picks but who knows how that shakes out.

Who do you think gets moved? We all know the perfect universe candidates, but who is necessary and also feasible to be moved? Gio? Franson?

Pomenville has chance to play for 2 separate Presidents Trophy winning teams. I hope they do, Jason has quietly earned a very impressive career 👍

I see Kulikov and Franson moved for sure. I'm just not sold on Gio being moved. If we move two d men we can play Falk and Fedun the rest of the season. There's also Casey Nelson or Strachan/Burgdoerfer to call up if necessary.

Harrington wrote recently that LA Kings scouts have been to a lot of Sabre games. My guess is they're looking at Kane closely. They need offense. You could see a Kane trade to LA possibly.

Pach suggested Fiddler as a 4C. Ryan White, VandeVelde are also possible options. Cracknell and Bourque could be options at forward, I guess.

Gio is looking like a solid contributor on the 3rd line. If he stayed I wouldn't be upset but given his UFA status I'd wonder if a Moulson trade then resign scenario could arise.

Kane to LA would work, he certainly fits their mold. Wonder what would come back.

I looked at the Kings expansion draft situation and they will protect Muzzin and Martinez so I doubt one of those guys would be included in a trade for Kane. McNabb and Forbort (who I really like) could be options. One or two of Lewis, Clifford and Pearson will not be protected and if we could add (Kulikov maybe), retain some of Kane's contract and get Forbort and Pearson, great.

I have to watch Forbort. Have been meaning to check out a Kings game since you've mentioned him.

Pearson though is a monster. Would love to have him on our side in some playoff hockey.

I caught a few of their games earlier in the season and both him and Gravel played well.

Before the season started, this board was pretty solidly behind wanting to up the trade value of Kane, Ennis and Girgenson, among other tradeable assets.

Now we seem to have a division on the two players who have succeeded in using their value in Kane and Girgs.
So, I do think we need to include them in the mix.

Seasoned D are always desirable for a playoff run, we as Sabre fans can attest to that strategy from the Carolina series many years ago.
Therefore I see Franson, Kuli and Gorges added to the mix.

Rounding out the mix are other FA's at seasons end, so we add in Fedun and Falk minimally...Larson if he were healthy.

That is quite a few tradeable assets...let's hope the league standings stay tight to keep more teams in the buyers market!

Trade all these guys if possible and acquire as much currency as possible to put together a package when teams are looking to extract some value from guys they can't protect in the expansion draft.
Maybe we get lucky then and can acquire 1 or 2 pieces!

He was indefinitely suspended by the NHL and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of domestic violence. He's playing in the KHL now but could his suspension be lifted, I kinda doubt it.

In 2014, the then-Los Angeles Kings defenseman was suspended indefinitely by the NHL following a domestic violence arrest and trial. After serving time in jail, and facing deportation, Voynov signed a three-year deal with KHL team SKA Saint Petersburg in October of 2015 that voided his contract with the Kings.

His NHL suspension has not been lifted, meaning his eligibility for the 2016 World Cup is in question.

So does that scout Anders Forsberg. He needs to add some strength. Forsberg is just as high on Asplund.
