I care about them now. I understand and liked the Bae/ granny trades...filling an age gap. No more trading picks.
- CanuckDon

That was necessary & JB figures that stage is over with now.

I don't know.

He would look pretty good on the Pen's 3rd line. He's versatile and can play any position asked, has a scorers touch, he’s played with high end talent, he’s got a little nasty to his game, has playoff experience, and is liked by his team mates.

Looks like a great pick up to me (as long as he can stay healthy).

Edit: I think he's been recognized for his good international play as well.

- bloatedmosquito

I think he is valuable, but I also think that his trade value will never match what he actually brings. He can definitely play up and down as needed, but in a normal situation on a good team I dont think he cracks their top 6. As much as he compliments our top 6 very well, other teams just have better forwards and if they want him for a run wont be acquiring him for more than depth scoring and defensive play

This league is a (frank)ing joke. $10,000 fine for a repeat offender. That is chump change to a guy like Marchand. Where is the (frank)ing suspension? and missing All Star game?
- Retinalz

It's about who the victim is. Plain and simple. Do that to someone who’s important to the league and see where it gets you.

And realistically, on a solid playoff-bound team like a Chicago, Pitt, SJ, etc. Hansen is a 3rd liner. Lets not go too crazy over his actual worth just because he looks good on a bad team
- WhiteLie

His worth u underestimate greatly. I recall a 3rd line doing pretty good on last years cup winner. Hansens speed & tenacity & ability to go up n down the line up is not in abundance league wide. I'd say he's maybe worth 2-2nds if he goes to the Habs.

More like its pathetic there when regurgitation is on the menu daily.
When convo goes on to other teams it gets more interesting.

That's where your team's GM has the influence to make a difference in the quality of the return. I guess the term 'showcase' applies to this situation.

But if the team's braintrust is focused on making the playoffs then showcasing talent is not on the priority list.

Might be a good player but is he important to the NHL? What if he did it to matthews?

I think fans of all teams deal with this..

Even in Toronto.. The media seems to focus more on the other teams.. The radio guys prefer to talk about the Jays, Raps, TFC than the Leafs.. When you watch the games on HNIC now dippoop Romanuk and Simpson are clearly Leafs haters.. We really miss Bob Cole..

He would probably be suspended yeah..

But he should have been suspended for doing it to Kronwall too, so i agree with you.

It's a capitalist society where the bottom line is all that matters.

I am not sure I do. Carl Hagelin is a very comparable player who is also 2 years younger, his last two trades were:
Hagelin for Perron & Clendenning (who was waived immediately), and
Hagelin, 59th and 179th picks for Etem and 41st pick

That hardly screams high worth to me. Hansen is aided by a better contract, but still older and less productive scoring rate in his career. I personally think Hansen is more reliable and consistent so should be worth more, but I doubt any other GM would want to pay more than a few mid round picks and middling player/prospects

I have never been to Toronto but that makes sense. Rest of Canada gets Maple Leaf talk, and City of Toronto focus's on Leafs/Jays/Raptors/TFC equally while having to provide sports updates from around the globe as well.

The Jays and Raps have a national presence so that I can understand but the leafs should not have that same exposure.

Saying that, I can understand why TSN has gone all in on leaf coverage. they hold the local broadcasting rights for the leafs. Big audience.

To be fair tho, they talk about whatever gets them ratings..

And the Leafs are kinda big deal right now.

Bob Cole on CBC if u looked away & listened u heard Leafs names or Philly dumps the puck in. The guy is a great announcer & homer wrapped into 1. No wonder u miss him. 😂😂

Definitely, they showcased him well last year, his stats look consistent with previous year, and he has the world cup experience. I hope that when he returns from injury that helps them make a good deal.

I hope they continue to push for the playoffs, but realize they have pushed successfully without Hansen for most of the year and that adding him does not make them more than a playoff-contender. Any other year and this isnt an issue but that expansion draft is forcing management to consider the consequences of not making a move, I hope they are not too short-sighted

Etem had a fair bit more value when this trade happened. Perron actually had value as well.

Hansen plays a similar game to Carl Hagelin - puts up similar points, can play up and down the lineup and matches the speed. Hagelin got Clendening and Perron, not sure what that equals in draft picks. 2 2nds sounds about right.

They have to provide other sports coverage, even TOR audience wouldn't want to watch an entire hour of Maple leaf coverage.

I hadn't realized, until a show was talking about the biggest movie winners, Return of the King won so many awards and it was the weakest of the 3 LOTR movies.

- hillbillydeluxe

I think Return of the King won all those awards out of recognition of the whole trilogy

Then why we all force fed inferior hockey on the CBC?
Best thing to happen to hockey nationwide was no more Saturday CBC 4pm PST Leafs. No other other league does not features dawgs in perpetuity.
