Absolutely. Leafs are playing good hockey. With Babcock, Shanahan, and Lamoriello in place coupled with all the high draft picks they have had they are set up nicely for success. I don't mind it. I think the NHL is a better league when the Leafs are good.

tanking has been proven to work....the value theyre getting from rentals is admirable though

When the Flyers were getting highend goaltending during the streak their PK climbed into the top 10.
- opeth_pa

No it didn't.

Also, we got high end goaltending all last season, and the PK finished 20th.

Yes. The way I see it is that he's lost confidence so he is trying to play more conservatively but it's not working for him.
- Hextall271

I agree with the lost confidence but that's on him. This kid is 23, played what 3 years of college and has half a season and playoffs under his belt, it's on him. Play better. And please stopped with the scared of scratched hes played in 94% og games

I don't call what the Leafs were doing tanking. I call it incompetence.

Once Shanahan came in they switched from incompetence to tanking with a purpose.

It's impressive that they can be in a playoff spot with $14m worth of cap hit on guys who don't play.

What has he been scratched twice? stop saying this.
- ClaudeFather

It's not about scratching him, it's about making him hesitant to make a play with the puck because he's too afraid of making a mistake. The kid needs to relax and play his game and a good staff (it's not all on Hak), would see this and do what it takes to help him succeed. Perhaps they're trying, but I don't think they are having very much success so far.

It's absolutely been tanking since Shanahan took over.

This, and I blame that on the coaching staff. They need to just let the kid play.
- BiggE

Do you think the coaching staff is telling him he has to play differently then what they were telling him last year?

Brown is actually 23. Hyman is 24.

I don't know, but he seems a lot more hesitant than he was last year. I think, having made the playoffs last year, expectations are higher. Perhaps not so much from Hextall, but certainly from the coach who I'm sure expects his team to be a playoff team. He may be transferring that pressure to his players, it's not an unheard of phenomenon. The whole team, at times, seems to be gripping their sticks a little tight.

You sure?
I want to say I saw them get to 10 or 8 spot on the PK during the streak.

Haha come on it's in the kids head. Why in the world would the ocaching staff want him to change his game, pretty sure he was great last year? And if they did it is not working and they can see that and would have said by now "play your game".

I agree with those who post that he looks like he has a confidence issue at times. I just disagree that the coaches are to blame for it. I have full confidence that Gostisbehere is going to be just fine.

Every single Maple Leaf has a higher SH save percentage than all Flyers PKers, except for one (Provorov) who would rank 7th on the Leafs.

I don't think he's scared of being scratched. it's more like he's scared of making a mistake which means he lacks confidence. I think the scratchings were more of a take a step back, watch a game from above and re set. Not a punishment.

Let me be clear, I'm not blaming all of his struggles on the coaching staff, I just don't feel that they are doing enough to help. I could be wrong, but that is just how it seems to me.

Quite a few players seem to be underperforming this season. Do you think that none of that falls on the coaching staff?

From Nov 1 to Dec 1 they got as high as 85% which allowed them to get to 11 in the league.

Personal responsibility! Get out of here. He's going through what I consider normal developmental growing pains for a young player.
