Yep.

He also happened to have probably the best assembly of talent in this team's existence.

Aside from a couple hiccups (Torts and Keenan) there has been some solid longevity with coaching staff.

WD will get an extension this offseason. One year deal means still on the hotseat, more than one year they think hes the long term coach

very true. 54-19-9 in 2011...hard to say if that will ever happen again.

I hate to interrupt this trip down memory lane. Those were good times!

But I do have a new blog...and I'm thinking about Hansen as our possible expansion draft guy...

I don't think anyone is.
Yes you can.

Regardless of the positive, progressive moves Benning has made (including Sven, Granlund etc), IF the Western Conference wasn't a total crap shoot this season, we would totally be in and around the very same position we were in last year.

IF the likes of NSH, DAL, WIN and L.A didn't have a slow start/took a step back, we are not a playoff team.

We are benefiting off the failures/short-comings of other teams, not the perceived success of our own!

We have 6 road wins for Christ sakes.

Nobody's saying that the two players are directly related to us getting a poor draft pick.

You take the twins off the roster and those two guys wouldn't see the light of day. The team as a whole is just good enough to push for a playoff spot but at some point over the next few years the canucks are going to have to find a star or two. The draft is the best way to do that.

Why not do it now or next season and start building around those very high draft picks?

You only switched your argument from why we shouldn't sign vet UFA's onto 23 year olds. It may seem clever to you.

Just like your criticism of the whiners from that trade, your puffed chest "look how smart I am" attitude is worse. It's a little early to write Shinkaruk off as a bust, he's near a ppg in the AHL, which is something our other 1st round pick, who's currently playing in the AHL as well, can't boast about...

Shink cannot boast about playing in the NHL other than for a cup of tea.

Yes, thank God. So I'm saying Bo fills one future spot on the top two lines. I'm hoping brock fills another spot. But I think that's it.

I would love to see the canucks draft a forward who can make the jump to the NHL right away. Top of my list would be a centre.

Who in the 10-16 range?

Patrick or Vilardi might be able to step in if handled right. They have NHL size and skills. I don't mean step in like Mathews and carry a 1st line or anything but I think those two have a shot. I don't think I'd take Vilardi over Hirschier though.

Problem is they won't be our picks.

Edler is the cornerstone to this dilemma. He's one of our best players but his time is coming to an end. I don't think you can get true value from him in a trade. He's got a NTC right?

But for me, he's the best option to go. If anything, it continues the movement towards a new team identity. That group had their shot and they came close. Time to go and we'll see you at the ring of fire ceremony in a few years.

- bloatedmosquito

I said numerous times he is the logical D to get forced into a trade.

Doesn't look like it. Kind of my point really. I don't think there ill be a NHL ready top 6 available for us.

It's weird that bloated desires that. He just spent a couple of pages telling us how having young players producing right now is too early. He does and doesn't want that on the same page.

He always has an already good team to coach.
No mystery there.
