Bishop, Fleury/Murray, Mason are all starters.

Then there are some debatable starters in Johnson and Elliott, Nilsson, Neuverth and possibly even Darling.

They might not all be available for a trade now but are all going to be UFA's after this season.

Nobody in the market now is a starter though.

Allen (STL) has been disappointing. WPG has been a mess. PHI has been less than impressive in goaltending. There is ALWAYS a market for a start goalie.

There has been ZERO indication that Willie will NOT be with the Canucks next year.

Have you ever known any GM to come out and say "We don't like our coach , we will fire him in the off season"

That goes against the philosophy of getting younger.

They likely expect the Demko is the future so whether it is Miller or Markstrom or someone else, they probably feel they are just place holders.

I agree. I believe that is part of the issue. Willie should be worried about next year, and the following year. I think Willy just wants to focus on the next game and win that game, nothing else. Markstrom, unfortunately, needs games in and needs confidence. Willy wants to continue being the Canucks coach next year.

That's the position the organization has put Willie in. If he doesn't get the wins this year then he won't be here next year.

This year hasn't been great but the previous 3 years as a starter in Philly were pretty good.

Miller has been playing some lights out hockey, definitely doesnt look ready to retire (like he was saying when he signed the original contract), get him on a good deal ( I know we want a younger core but an elite goalie is an elite goalie) for a couple years, I doubt we get anything for Markstrom in a trade, if he doesn't force (with his own play) WD to give him way more starts before the summer I doubt he becomes anything more than a backup, buyout candidate if I ever saw one, I'm hoping he gets a good run and goes back to become a starter....but man he gets beat a lot.

I just think that if Willie D was going to be fired, they would have done it already. I think since Benning/Linden keep the "we knew this was going to be a slow process and Willie is doing a great job with what he is given" speech, that we will see him at the helm next year regardless of what happens. I hope I am wrong.

They didn't fire Capuano in the off season.

Hitchcock is as close as it will ever come to that. Point being you never hear the bullet

Splitting the duties 50/50 next year and signing Miller to a reasonable contract would be ideal. He is playing great, and Markstrom needs more starts. No one else in our goalie pipeline is ready to play backup yet.

I had him in the pool last year I couldn't pay anyone to take him. Only Lefty likes him

That is one way to go for sure. The other would be to move one of them

Understandable. NYI admitted they were going to look elsewhere in the offseason and Capuano's poor record expedited that. And Hitchcock won't be extended pass this year leaving the job open (presumably for Yeo). Either way, it just wouldn't surprise me if we saw Willie in Whistler barking orders during main camp.

At the same time, I don't agree with how they have deployed Markstrom this year. I thought it was supposed to be more 1A/1B.
- Codes1087

yes youre right it was supposed to be that. I agree with you, you need games to stay in form

Going into next season with Markstrom starting makes me cringe, but thats one way to get 1oa if we dont extend/intend on playing Miller I can see him going back to free agency with a pretty dang good resume this year

With WD I can see it either way. He has the guys playing hard . It is a roster problem mostly but he does get out coached also. I could see it going either way.

The way Benning is I could easily see both being back next year too and Miller being paid a big salary.

Who knows

Usually the home bench gets the last change so as much as I like to question WD, I'm not sure that's on him.

Toews is getting a lot of credit for ending up with 4 pts but it was the Kane/Panarin line that was the most dangerous. They could of had 4 in the 1st period alone IMO.

If Edler is out for any length of time the next up on the depth chart has got to be Pedan. Subban is behind him and Pedan has not received any NHL ice time this season, it is his turn.
Once Pedan gets recalled leave him here so we don't expose him on waivers, when Larsen is ready waive him if need be..

So WD looks ahead to next year & tells his players to focus on one game at a time.
How does that make any sense?
