Boyle is the typical solid faceoff guy that kills penalties so everyone jumps to the conclusion he is good defensively. He is an overhyped 4th liner.

As for Tatar he is my favorite player and I'm just not emotionally ready to have to root for the Hawks. You can have Nyquist though for a 2017 3rd, 2018 1st, and a prospect.

- Feds91Stammer

Tatar would be great but I don't see the Wings parting with him. Tatar, Larkin, possibly Mantha and Athanasiou (sp?) are guys they should potentially keep and build around.

Depending on the prospect that's fairly reasonable for Nyquist I would think, but no thanks. He's a great regular season player who hasn't been able to translate that success to the playoffs. See "ghost" in Webster's...

Boyle is a favorite of mine. He would fit in on any teams bottom 6 and he contributes. Also his size is a huge plus and we need some more grit on this team for the playoffs.

Problem is I don't think the Bolts have any interest in trading him but I could be wrong.

- Ballam

I have been watching quite a few Tampa games and Boyle stood out. He was consistently near the net, providing net front presence, screening the opposing goalie and mastering rebound or deflection here and there. While not being Saad 1LW, he is pretty effective at what he does.
If Tampa moved him though, Yzerman would probably look for a team that accepts some cap hit (like TT was moved to get team to accept Bickell), as they will want to unload Carle or Callahan cap hit in order to sign some of Bishop/Johnson/Palat, so unlikely he would go to Hawks.

Rumors out here in Dallas that Sharp will be out. Is this even a possibility for the Hawks? Obviously, salary retention will come into play but what is the cost?

I've never liked that argument for any player. He's only played with one team and coach in the playoffs. It's a completely different scenario after a trade.

Everyone on DET has been a "ghost" in the playoffs because they haven't been good for years and have been outmatched in every series they've played. Making judgements on small sample sizes like a playoff series is bad. Tatar could be available because DET undervalues him but the prospect in the Nyquist deal I suggested would be a B level prospect.

I'd considered that a change of scenery and playing with different guys could be just the trick and there's soemthing to be said for that. Also realize some guys get that rap and are able to change attitudes in a different uniform.

But in Nyquist's case he makes $4.75M for two more years after this one and is more of a perimieter player not characteristically known as a guy that would provide any net front presence...JMO but...PASS.

I'd do your deal for Tatar (the prospect would likley have to be better) but again I'll pass on Nyquist.

Hawks would likely have to unload him (Gustav) in the offseason anyway.

Great avi btw...thank you...very...very...very much.

What advanced stats say the Hawks should have lots last night? They were above 55% in every shot metric category (CF / FF / SF / SCF / HDCF). They have definitely won some games they shouldn't (thanks mostly to elite goal tending), but last night was not one of them. And tbf they've lost some they should have won. They're right about 51% SAT, which is the best it's been almost all year (they were at 52% after a 10 game surge right before Toews got injured).

You're definitely right in your latter comment about them forming bad habits. This team could be better than they perform, but they often do just enough to win (and it hasn't been as fortunate for them as of late). And I 100% agree with your assessment of Kempny's game last night.

- L_B_R

Fair enough about the advanced stats vs the Canucks, I was thinking more of the Boston game.
My apologies.

Mostly games and highlights where I've seen him scoring goals. He's a slick player with some nice moves but I want a guy who will get me some greasy goals come playoff time.

I don't think that's Gustav or his game...do you?

His avg shot distance indicates he is a perfectly normal player is all I'm really saying. His playmaking ability would work well with Toews and Hossa.

I know I can go on and on, grateful the Hawks are in the position they are in, about 13 points every 10 games.

Can any forward please block a shot on the PK, if you're going to let the forward park himself in front of Corey and play positional defense instead of attacking the puck, the forwards needs to block the shot especially when it's a wrister. PK is going back to the land of being inept. Just horrible

That's fair and you could be right about that. I just don't see the Hawks going for him but I didn't think they'd pony up for Ladd last year so what do I know.

Guess it depends on how bad they want more punch in the Top 6 and if they don't want to get burned by another bad rental.

If not the Hawks I could totally see the Wings parting with him for a defender somewhere.

Loved seeing Roenick out there pregame. To me you retire 28, 27 in that order. Could care less about 7, and I'd retire 30 before 7. Roenick to me could play in any generation and put up similar numbers. A guy who bled Hawks while playing for a moronic owner....last night was another step in making things right, but if they are going to retire Magnusson who is NOT a hall of famer then you retire 28 and 27 as well.

Again, faceoff stats tell me Toews back is still jacked up. until proven otherwise, I'm not buying the lip service hawks are delivering AND if it is...then Toews should skip the all star game and rest up. Tons of miles on his body with the Hawks, team Canada over the past few years.

Game wise....ugh. Nothing flashy. Hawks blew a 2 goal lead, got a lucky end bounce and pulled out a squeaker over a bad Vancouver team. The bounces come and go, but overall not their best and they continue to be up/down throughout each game. Not a ton of consistency.

Kempny again was off, and was chained to the bench Nick Leddy style.
Kero being out in the final minute with 19/81 shows how much trust he has gained from Q. Curious to see who is going down or making room when 16 comes back.

2 more winnable games before the Disney on ice 6 game jettison out west.

Skated on the UC ice a few times, and I'll take my mens league ice at Canlan in Romeoville ALL DAY over that debacle. No wonder guys take falls out there all day with all the rivets and for as much as a control freak McEgo is you would think he would find out what number it would take to lure the guy out of Edmonton south.....

I'm with you.....I'll take their standing but their are some glaring warts on this team that make me concerned come spring time. These are NOT nit picking.

Not only the Fs, but the D men try to front the play and either screen Crawford or fail to block the shot. Their PK system is just bad.

A defender would be nice but really DET just needs more top 60 picks and just overall talent.
