Here’s another long rant I hope people can forgive me for. Considering everything said on hockeybuzz and this blog in particular…

On a whim one day last week, I researched into the whole “Trump showergate” thing. Funny enough it started when I was researching on hockey stats and saw a link to an article about it. So it's all your fault Tanner!

I ended up wanting to discover the validity of this and so I ended up reading over a dozen articles from a variety of sources. Some were defending Trump, some vilifying him, and some were more about speculating on the truth of the matter.
My rather informed decision after wading through all that crap: I think the story is probably not true. I can’t be certain as it’s tough to sort truth from fiction in the news these days, but this is my final opinion.

Now, if in truth the story about Trump and the Russian hookers doing the golden shower thing is totally made up, it gives a different viewpoint when he dissed CNN. CNN after all, without really verifying anything, aired the story and credited Buzzfeed. They even admitted they hadn’t actually verified any of it. If you research you will see this is why no other news sources used this story despite it circulating for several months before Buzzfeed "broke it".

If this story actually wasn’t true and you were in Trump’s shoes and then were expected days later to make nice and answer questions from a news source that had been spreading such ridiculous lies about you, would you be happy to just pretend it never happened and calmly answer their questions? Personally, I’d have been very temped to call them out too. Even knowing that the political thing might be to just play nice, it would be very satisfying to call them out and then ignore them.

Hey here’s something funny, see the following quote from last year and then read who said it: “Fake news will become more sophisticated, and fake, ambiguous, and spun-up stories will spread widely,” warned an important American editor at the end of December 2016. His name: Ben Smith. His publication: BuzzFeed.

Oh, Smith also was quoted himself saying, “there is serious reason to doubt the allegations.” No one cares though, because they already hate Trump and want to believe this since it aligns with their views, rather than discover the truth.

The thing about this is that CNN did nothing wrong. The file was out there and there were tons of rumours about - all they did was report that the President and Trump had both been briefed on it. This is not unusual.

As for Buzzfeed, it was irresponsible and bad journalism, not getting around that. However, I 100% believe it is true because it fits the guy's character.

On top of all this, is that Trump spent 5 years saying Obama was born in Kenya - which is a very racist thing to say about the first Black President. The born in Kenya stuff is way less plausible than the Trump documents, so it's hilariously ironic for Trump, of all people, to complain about it.

What are you talking about? If you are this ill-informed, you should be doing some research before giving your opinion.

Here is a link to Trump's politi-fact score card. As you can see, only an astounding 4% of his statements are 100% true.

http://www.politifact.com...rsonalities/donald-trump/

As for providing proof that he has threatened minorities, please see google his statements about an Muslim Registry, a wall around the border to Mexico, his attempt to discredit a federal judge with Mexican heritage, or his refusal to come out and even attempt to say all these things are misunderstood and that he really is the President for all people.

- James_Tanner

What's wrong with a Muslim registry and a better vetting process to ensure the safety of the US?

What's wrong with a wall, despite really not feasible to keep drugs and illegals out of the US?

If u read it on he internet it must be true. Here's to looking forward to 8 years of trump. Stay in Canada James in ur safe space

Jay Beagle is on ice in OT due to his faceoff wizardry and Trotz's stubborness on using 2 D. Soon as he wins draw 1 D now finally gets off ice
- bondraovie

Good point. Still, you're better off losing a draw than having Beagle on the ice in 3v3, in my opinion.

Also, pre-running for Presdient, both Trump and his racist father have a long history of lawsuits for racial discrimination.

Hmm. You raise a good point. Trump should definitely consult with the Chinese (if he hasn't already) before building his wall at the Mexican border. I'm sure they've got all the best tips.
Maybe they can also shed some light on how to not be infiltrated by the Mongols/Mexicans in spite of a massive wall.

The bolded highlights exactly what I was saying at the end of my post, which ironically is something you yourself have complained about others doing. You believe something simply because it fits within your current views rather than because there are any real facts to back it up.

If CNN did nothing wrong, why is it that many other media sources that are no fans of Trump, chose not to speak about a story because they could not verify it in any way? Real news companies have an obligation to actually check their sources before broadcasting rumors and speculation as if it's fact.

Those lies don't fit the narrative being written here, so they never happened. Get with the program!

I can kinda understand people thinking he's a threat to minorities what with his idea of passing stricter immigration laws and wanting to deport illegal immigrants, but what I find crazy is how much people seem to think he's going to be a threat to women's lib.
What, do people think he's going to try and abolish the women's vote or something???
Oh I see, because he allegedly doesn't respect women, that means men all over America will decide it's ok for them to do the same. I find this insulting as a man that because Trump might not treat women well, men everywhere are going to follow suit.
Just like when Clinton was caught having an affair in the white house all the men in the U.S. decided, "well if Clinton can cheat on his wife, I can guess I can too!" Oh wait, that never happened, because people don't all just blindly do the same as the president in their everyday lives...
It seems a little ironic to me that the Democrats were all going on about Trump's campaign being about fear mongering during the election, yet that seems to be all we get from the Democrats and the media that supports them since the election occurred.
It is getting ridiculous.

As for how his term will affect Canadians...I've heard speculation that it might actually be beneficial for our economy depending on the policies that get set. There is a lot of talk about raising tariffs and taxes with other countries, but considering how economically tied our two nations are, not to mention the oil pipelines, he may not raise taxes on imports from Canada, which would give us an economic edge on other importers to the U.S.

- Thecakeisalie

You are forgetting Trumps flip flop in over women's reproductive rights. He is on record saying that if a women gets an abortion she should be held "at least partially" criminally reponsable. Regardless of youy political affiliation there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. Repealing abortion law should scare women. Having a white house full of rich, white, right winged men...and Kellyann Conway. Means the prospect of advancement of gender equally is highly unlikely.

So maybe think about your gun issue? Thousands more people are killed every year by guns than by "radical islamic terrorists". Why not apply that better vetting process to that issue?

PS: A registry based on religion was tried about 80 years ago. That's didn't end well for anybody involved.

You do raise a good point I hadn't been considering. I strongly agree it should be up to the pregnant woman to decide if she wants an abortion and that it should be totally legal up to a certain time. I'm not an expert on this although I think there were studies done on when an infant was actually capable of thought and it was a few months in...

Trump made a reference in one of his speeches about "ripping the baby out of the womb in late pregnancy" that was demonstrably false. Pretty much the only reason that there is a late term abortion (after 20 weeks) performed is that there is either a serious genetic condition with the child that would drastically deteriorate quality of the child's life (not all can be identified before 20 weeks), or a serious health risk to the mother by continuing the pregnancy.

So if HRC was a criminal as you say, why is Donnie going back on his promise to "lock her up"?

Don;t get me wrong, I'm absolutely not a fan of HRC, but I've yet to see one single REPUTABLE source give any evidence of note.

Also, telling somebody to knock off their bias while explicitly showing yours is hilarious - what you're basically saying is "you don't agree with me therefore you should shut up" YIKES!

You have ranted before about people being unable to consider alternative opinions that differentiate from their own views. Something along the lines of people only surrounding themselves with others that share similar views and dismissing anything that doesn't share that view...Sound familiar?

Now you are saying you're going to ignore the facts that suggest the "Trump showergate story is false" and choose to believe it simply because it matches what you believe to be his character. You are dismissing any evidence you aren't predisposed to agree with. Rather hypocritical.

Yeah, I'll admit this issue does explain why a lot of women would be upset. Rightly so. This is often an issue between deeply religious (Christians mostly?) and the women's choice supporters.
To be fair I suppose a few "right to life" supporters aren't necessarily religious, although it seems most of them are.

Yup, and the US supposedly underwent a separation of church and state a while ago, so allowing religious dogma to dictate policy is absolutely ludicrous.

By the way Tanner, congratulations on the Capitals blogger position.

I may not see eye to eye with you all the time, but this doesn't mean I actually dislike you or anything. Even though many of the posters argue with you, one thing you are good at is generating conversation and hits, so nice job.
