My point is it wasn't the fault of Chiarelli that previous management had already destroyed any value they had. He did what he should've. Schultz needed a change of scenery to a team and conference whose style he fits him better.

Even a year earlier, his value wasn't super high.
He's the perfect example of a sink or swim asset.

Kid clearly had skills, but was struggling. Being a first overall, the prudent move imo is to see if he can figure it out and fulfill even some of that potential. which makes him Exponentially more valuable to us than what we could've even gotten a little while earlier.
But with that, you take the risk that he sinks and has no value.

Unfortunately he sunk. It happens.

However, I will say even the risk factor is exaggerated.
We lost out a year earlier on maybe a decent prospect or a 2nd.


Incidentally, I think Reinhart is much the same. Someone mentioned jettisoning (is that a word?) him recently. Just not worth it for the return and what we payed for him. .
