Well here's hoping Eberle is about to start one of his hot streaks.

I don't think the Oil will win the division, but really all they have to do is keep widening the gap between themselves and the Flames/Kings/Canucks.

Those teams were riding a multitude of career years and unsustainable save percentages Iggy.

Talbot is doing a great job in net but his performance (while All Star worthy IMO) is not unsustainable, nor is he having a career year. McDavid and Draisaitl are having great years but pretty much picked up where they left off last year, so I'd hesitate to say its unsustainable. Only guy who is really having a career year is Maroon.

Not really sure you can truthfully lump the Oilers improved season in the same category as those other 3.

Why? Not because PC has done anything revolutionary. Because of the natural progression of most of our players, having the best player in the world and keeping the vast majority of our key players healthy.

Maroon was a big pick up.

You could argue having Maroon, Kassian, and Lucic (all PC pickups) help keep guys healthy. Definitely not as many liberties being taken against the Oilers as in the past.

No one ever said he revolutionized the team.

He did bring in a few d men, which are all playing regularly and that has solidified the defensive gaps.

Most poster are fairly moderate in view. Berman I don't see many seriously think the oilers a guaranteed a playoff spot...most do believe the team should be a solid wildcard contender.

Maroon is working out great. I don't have much of an issue with Lucic.
Russell isn't great. Larsson is a fine second pair guy.

Seems to be less of an edge here. Well done. You must have worked most of it out by now.

Russel isn't great, but he is solid and considering that he is playing on his off wing is a large point in his favour.

Combined with Larsson, Klef and Sek this team can say they have 4 Top 4 D men. Maybe Russel is the weakest of the 4, but he is doing the job admirably. Especially considering the D corps the Oil have iced over the last few years.

There is still work to be done, but the glaring, debilitating and desperate need to get a Top 4 D is now in the past. This is now allowing the young guys like Nurse, Davidson and Benning to play smaller roles and develop. This just improves the future of the D and lessens the need to overpay on getting that guy that puts the team over the top.
