I won't get into the rest, but Yakupov was not an asset. He was a liability that had no future on the team due to his own inability to adjust and adapt. Moving him for anything was good for the team. Can we stop pretending that he had any value to us or any other team? - MaximumBone
Yak has been destroying it in St. Louis... and by "it," I mean his own career. |

Agreed wholeheartedly
He was worth nothing and wasn't gonna magically gain value all of a sudden. And we certainly weren't gonna give him plum playing time in favour of better players in an attempt to do so .
Been there done that
Was good for the team and him For all parties to move on.
The return was a break even result. And I'll say the same even if somehow he ever does manage to become an effective player in the NHL. Which I believe is still SomewhAt possible |

So Yak who's a bust, but is still in the NHL is who you want to use as a comparison? The Janitor has nothing on Yak!!! - Ihatebrianburke
Except a bright future in the NHL. And he could be traded for more than a third round pick. Oh, and he backchecks. Yak never really figured that out.
And the Janitor didn't piss off the rest of his team by demanding top six minutes, failing to produce with the minutes he didnt deserve, and go public on a trade demand twice.
Gotta wonder how many trade demands he made that didn't go public.

I'd take Jankowski over Yakupov... But then again, I'd take Herpes over Yakupov. |

Congrats. You have a player producing sub-point-per-game offense in the AHL at age 22. In most cases, scorers have found their way into the NHL by now if they're gonna develop into a top-6 guy. He might still be something, but don't strut around talking about him like he's some elite prospect. |

While I can see the reasons for the value loss in the hall trade, (still don't love it though)
and have zero issue with what we got for yaks,
and considering the quality but unspectacular player nuge is;
If someone told me back then we were gonna finish last twice and 2nd last in a three year span, and for that horribleness we'd end up with
Zach pochiro
3rd rounder
A very solid defensive #3 in Adam Larsson
A quality two way 2c in nuge
Idve lost my mind |

Don't forget about Klefboner.
If you then told me that those failures would lead to getting the world's best hockey player, I'd probably deal with it. |

Well in that case you could say every draft pick in those 3 years counts.
And while the high second is great and all (and I'm as bullish on pitlick as anyone) it's really only the lottery pick thats the prize.
And klefbom was picked at 19.
I'm not attempting to put it all in a vacuum, but in reality those pieces I mentioned in my post are the 'prizes' we ended up with for all that futility.
Doesn't look pretty.
End of the day, we're where we are now and I'm happy for it. Just sayin
As far as the mcdavid thing- I'd totally agree. But just for argument sake not sure we had to bottom feed for half a decade to get him. |

I guess it depends on how you want to frame it. I view the picks from the first two rounds as the prizes for failures. Moving Penner (part of the rebuild and failure) brought us the pick that brought us our best bet for an elite two-way D in Klefbom. |

There is definitely a lot of luck in what year your team sucks. Big difference between drafting a Yak and a Connor |

There's also a big difference between drafting Pitlick, Musil, Perhonen and Moroz instead of even just two of Toffoli, Saad or Kucherov, Trocheck and Severson. Just imagine the difference in the team if I had been drafting for the Oilers |

Anyone who says they wouldn't have sex with Klefbom is obviously gay...
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I no longer believe in evolution after knowing you sad sacks of leftover residue from your mothers ovaries.
You all make me feel good about myself. Its why I come here.
SO GOOD in fact that I am willing to do an AVIE BET for 1 week. Winner chooses, nothing ban worthy.
Which of you Bithces has the Balls?????
I am kinda busy tonight so I will be checking in sporadically to feast on Oiler fan tears. But I am sure no one has the manhood to take the bet.
