Imo a trade like that makes us worse overall. Especially how the big kraut has picked up his game this year.
- TheTaoOfSemenko

So much worse. Many forget the indispensable value of actual depth.

He does for sure - it really depends on how you want to defend: Do you want to do so with that mean guy who blocks shots, hits hard and makes people think twice about coming into your zone, or do you want the guy with good stick work who defends by picking up the puck and skating it 100+feet away. My personal preference is for the latter, but that's just me.

Good night, sweethearts.

People can call Larsson "just a 2nd pairing guy" all they want, but the fact is he plays much of his time against top opposition and more often than not comes out ahead in GF/60 and possession (2.63 GF/60 to 2.34 GA/60 and 50.3 FF%). His presence and the trust his coach has for him allows for the rest of the D to find those opportunities for success. Ever stop to think about how our D is suddenly able to score? How many years has it been since we've we had four Dmen in the double-digits for points less than 50 games into the season? Sekera and Klefbom are around 20 already while Larsson and Benning just hit 12 and 10 respectively.

All I hear is how no team has won a Cup without an elite, two-way #1 (there are some exceptions) but those same people ignore how most Cup winners also employed a top end shutdown guy. Guys like Hjalmarsson, Seidenberg, Mitchell/Scuderi, Hjalmarsson, Mitchell, Hjalmarsson and Dumoulin all played pivotal roles in their team's Cup wins and were major factors that allowed their top-offensive guys the chances to produce.

I said it was a bonus lol, and this is a Chiarelli team now. Year #2 and they're already a fairly bruising and mean bunch. Even Mcdavid is developing a nastier side, and he looks like he still plays with GI Joes.

My daughter was watching after hours with me and asked how old Gaudreau is, because she thought he was 16 lol.

- TheTaoOfSemenko

That they do. Although I'm no longer in Edmonton I'll often tune in to watch as games rarely clash with the Leafs... I've been very impressed with how heavy the Oilers are playing

Hall is, both in production and skill, one of the top LW in the game. Trading that for dlueline "depth" is ridiculous (Larsson is 4th in TOI for the Oilers). Now, Larsson brings a much needed element to the defense, but should have come at a more reasonable cost. If I want a six-pack of beer, I don't hand over a $100 to make it happen.

Few disagree that it was not a fair trade. I am one of those that wish it wasn't as lopsided as it was.

But...

The fact is that there was absolutely no trade that was giving the Oilers a young top 4 dman on a very good contract, for a reasonable price.

Edmonton NEEDED that dman more than teams needed to give one up....Edmonton was seriously desperate.

The only other trade I know of was something like Leon++ for Hamonic..now Hall is a top LW, but even at the time Leon was "A" grade.

I am happy that Hall was traded rather than LD

Facts are facts. Look at the Oilers without hall and with Larsson. And look at the Devils with the opposite. Case closed.

Everything we gained by getting Larsson, Jersey lost, and hasn't been able to overcome it. Who cares what stupid troll fans have to say about the trade. Listen to interviews with Larsson's teammates and coaches and how his game is regarded around the league.
