In all fairness the Leafs aren't that far removed from where the Canucks are now. Also, the majority of us Leafs fans were in denial at the time thinking that we could win with what we had.

Only now are we seeing the benefits of a full tear down and rebuild. 5 years ago a lot of us were completely against it.

So the Canucks are in the exact same situation as the Leafs were, same vets, same younger players, same coach and gm?

Similar? sure. Could the Canucks sputter along and get the same results? sure.

Is it written in stone? no.

Both clubs are trying to put together competitive teams. The Leafs have more prospects and some have a higher ceiling.

Is either club where they want to be, as in are they done rebuilding and a lock for the playoffs for years to come? No.

So lets give it a bit of time before we call either plan a success or failure.

Leafs and Nucks both at 50 pts right now in the standings pretty much both teams on pace for the same 86 pts or so.

Leafs forward prospects look pretty good I will say but TO really hasn't addressed the D or the goaltending looking ahead…we have. But we need to address our top 9 forwards a bit better. Hopefully draft well in the 2-3 years.

Not to take anything away from TO playing well but they are in the east with a pretty light travel sched and what have you.

It would be interesting to see where this current Leafs lineup would be if they played in the West and had to face CHI-STL-LA-ANA-SJ-EDM and the top teams out here all the time with the travel scheds out here.
