Until some others start throwing their body around like Bouma, this needs to stop! Agree he's overpaid but that's no reason to sh!t all over him. The guy continually hits, we need this! - K-man25
Yeah the problem is that besides Tkachuk and to a point Brouwer there is not one physical player on the top 3. Thats 2 out of 9 players.
But then on the 4th its either Bouma, Ferland, or Hathaway. Yes Bouma hits people, but Hathaway hits more, and Ferland at least brings stick handling to the equation and is tough as nails. Bouma seems like the odd man out. |

Not to many tough scoring RW'ers coming available this free agency I'm afraid.

No sexy names this year, no. But I'd rather not try and "win the offseason" and look for guys that can play second or third fiddle in our top 6. Patrick Eaves, Patrick Sharp, Or Justin Williams on a short term deal. Maybe try offer sheet a guy like Neiderrieter or Zibanejad who are on teams with a tight cap situation.
Plus I want the Flames Summer money spent on Alzner to shore up our top 4 D |

This team needs to hurry up and figure out if it's a contender or not. In the long run, if they can get their game back to where it was, having a slump where you play a bunch of garbage hockey and still go .500 really isn't that bad. - Hunkulese

No to all the first part, but 100% agree with them going after Alzner this off season. Perfect fit to round out the top 4. More of a stay at home, can play big minutes, and a definite strong connection for him to come to Calgary.
Whoever has been the #3 this year has struggled, not so much because the other guy gets to play with Gio, but whoever is playing the #4 is more like a #6 and was just dragging Hamilton or Brodie down with him.
Shore up this spot first (before the forwards) because it will also revitalize the guy playing at #3 (Brodie) as he doesn't have to cover so much for the shlub he is playing with.
Beyond that if they could resign Engelland for say 1.5 mil at the most 2 years, then I would get him as a #5/#6, and then let Wotherspoon, Kulak, Kylngton, Andersson fight it out for that last spot.
When it comes to the forwards, unless they think that they have a shot at Oshie, there isn't anybody I would sign for the top 6. This will need to be a trade, and may need to involve their first to do it. But in a weaker draft class and picking in the mid teens I'm not necessarily opposed to this. |

Agree I guess. But drop the connection to Calgary for Alzner. It means absolutely zippo! It's like when people said Johnny won't sign in Calgary, he wants to be close to home. |

I agree with most of this. Obviously that 4th defender is most important. Adding a guy that can bring up Brodies level of play instead of bringing it down is huge.
I realize the forwards I suggested doesn't get anyone excited, and they could flop just as easily as they could succeed. But we don't need a world beater to play with Johnny and Money. Look at what Maroon is doing in Edm. Sheary in Pittsburgh. And if you scoff at Patrick Eaves, then you probably haven't watched Dallas play.
But like you said, a trade is where you are going to get that next level of guy you won't find in the free agent market this year. But I t would have to be a heck of a player to give up the chance to draft Pettersson, Glass or Foote IMO.
Here's hoping a few of the kids in Stockton step up to the challenge. |

K let's sign Oshie for 7 mill a year then. I bet the Flames are at the top of his list.
Or maybe bring Iginla back and live the good old days again. |

With the Expansion draft, our options are limited. We can't try to acquire players that could help us for a push into the playoffs as well as next season. I think we need to focus on staying the course, and make a move to acquire assets if the opportunity arises.
Moving Wideman, Elliott, Engs and even Ferland need to be considered at the right offer.
Bring up a few of the kids to audition so you have a better gauge for what you need in the offseason. I'm talking Jankowski, Gillies, Rittich, Klimchuk, and Poirier.
Hold onto that 1st rounder this year. We aren't ready to sell high picks unless you make another no brainer trade ie) Hamilton. There is some good prospects in this draft. I'm not buying that this draft is garbage just because there is no uber hyped talent at the top. It's looks very balanced going from the 5th pick right to the 20th. There is a couple gems in there, and one is certain to be available when the Flames hit the podium.
If we get into the playoffs, our own guys need to step up and find another gear to their game. There's been too many passengers this year and we have the ability to win a few rounds simply by internal growth, without selling assets. - JallHockey

I disagree, Alzner lives here and it might mean something for him to play for the Flames. Lots of examples of players taking less to play close to home. |
