Giroux has been flat out bad both in performance and in leading by example. It's extremely worrisome. - BiggE

I am anxious to see how they play coming out of this break.
I know the patience mantra but if they come out and get steamrolled this weekend I might be willing to make a big move like moving Giroux or maybe try to filter off some UFA's.
I think the weekend is big in seeing the effort they come out with. |

I actually think it's been most of the year. I mean he will always get points on the PP or assists but in regards to impacting games I think it has been very little this year. There are games here and there but not enough that I expect from the captain.
that's just my opinion |

He's been pretty ineffective at ES all year, he's staying to the perimeter more than ever and rarely does he go to the net or create any really good ES chances. What concerns me even more is his lack of hustle getting back on D, that is inexcusable for a team Captain. |

Could some of it also be that you have a captain who looks to be coasting in the defensive side a lot?
I don't know. But to me that really frustrates me. I think Voracek leads by example. Giroux worries me with each game. - J35Bacher
I wouldn't put Voracek on a pedestal above Giroux when it comes to leading by example. Both of them have had pretty glaring moments due to a lack of effort on the back check recently.
I do like his honesty in interviews about the team. He's one of the few leaders that calls them out after unacceptable efforts. They need more of that. Guys like Timonen, Pronger and Jagr handled that in past seasons. It's also something I appreciated from Knuble.

I'm just saying, Briere looked like he could still move out there. Could he really be that much of a downgrade from some of our 3rd line members and PP2 players? Dude basically willed them to win Game 6 in Buffalo in 2011, for what it's worth. |

That is what I am referring to. It is a question for everybody though. I am not trying to single you out....when did it start? After the 10 game win streak? |

I wonder if he's dealing with an LBI |

If they come out of this break and don't immediately start winning some games, they will quickly fall out of playoff contention. If that happens, I would hope Hextall sells some pending UFA's at the deadline.
Due to his cap hit, moving a guy like Giroux, if it were to happen at all, would likely happen in the offseason |

Yes, but he also looked twice as good as anyone out there sans Desjardins. If Claude Lemieux could make an NHL comeback at 43... |

If he is, sit him and let him get well. They're not a contender, no need to keep an injured and struggling player in the lineup |

How about this guy instead - YuenglingJagr
You have no idea......this is going to be the name you hear constantly and endlessly from all the beats....6'6" sniper who can skate decently. Last year it was Jones and Bellows and Gauthier. This year Popugayev and Rasmussen. They're so damned predictable. I haven't seen him much outside the Russian Super Series, but people or scouts who watch him regularly keep dropping him despite producing a lot. He's pretty soft for a big guy and there are holes in his game. |

I give it another 3-4 bad games until Hak makes the obvious choice and literally rips the C off of Giroux's jersey and stitches it, himself, onto VandeVelde's. |

You know they will come out just skating around and losing all puck battles and have about 10 odd man rushes...just in the first 5 minutes. |

just saying it seems like his "poor defensive play" is a little overblown. certainly below his standards, but I dont think he has been setting a bad example for the team like everyone acts like he is.
edit: besides last weekend |

Yes and no. Overall his defensive play has been so-so, but it really does send a bad message when your team Captain is coasting back on D. |
