Same. Hes great on PK too. Cant imagine he will ever be a guy making big money too so his contracts will always be team friendly, plus he probably makes all his money with his childrens books and playing in the NHL is mostly a hobby and something to do for him

If he keeps playing with Matthews, he’s going to eventually have year like komarov had last year; something where Matthews banks in a dozen goals of hyman’s ass to make him a +20 goal scorer.

As long as that doesn’t happen in a contract year, I agree, he should be low cost.

hey mike - long term reader, first time poster here

since looking at the expansion draft; which team and which players are leafs most likely to make a trade with/for in order to get their minimum of 2 exposed forwards?
this is assuming jvr-kadri-komarov-martin and bozak all protected.
on d no issues (marincin or carrick left exposed) but on fw need to have two fw's exposed.

if leafs make playoffs, imo it would make sense to add two players with a contract until 2018 on fw, that could help the team in playoffs and then both be exposed (with scenarios of 1 or 0 (if LV goes with D or GK from Tor) of them being picked up by LV).

Rychel and Leipsic don't qualify to satisfy the minimum 2 players with 40/70 GP that need to not protected by the organization (I'm guessing that's Laich and Martin for now), but they remain exposed.

I think you misread in same way as I did.

There is an obligation for Teams to expose (at least) 2 FW that meet the exposure rules . (contract at least 1 more year, minimum games - indicated by green 'v').
The players that are automatically protected are on right hand side.
But Leivo/Rychel/Leipsic still need to be protected if Leafs want to make sure to keep them.

(basically, if you want to keep a player for sure, a team should protect him , or he should be exempt (the younger players) - all rest can be picked up, that's including the ones with contracts ending 2017 - so LV could pick up Lupul or Greening for example if left unprotected..).

Seems quite clear to me that is another reason for Leafs to try and move either one of the above players or JVR in a deal for a D-man.

laich meets bolded criteria, but not the first one.
if leafs give him a new contract though before expansion draft, he would meet the criteria.
