The big question is would management sign a UFA D for more money than Reilly
- jimi james

Gotta believe that Shattenkirk would be the only D they'd considering doing that for.

This game decided everything; nothing before or after this game means anything. Why can't people understand this?

Nor are polak and hunwick. But after last night.....

from watching 1 period?

They were unfortunately the best pair on the ice shot attempts wise.

If you don't like what your read...ignore instead of acting like a giant (frank)head.

Did you watch the game or look at any stats from the game...cause you bashing the same guys everyday is tiresome..especially when you're clueless.

Cheers.

- Garnie

I actually thought Hunlak had an alright game. This morning I singled out Carrick and Corrado. Coincidentally the guys I'm usually defending

Nice try though

I don't know how you can honestly think that the D doesn't need to be fixed, but enjoy your ban. I think calling me a frankhead violates the CoC.

Cheers

They were on for more goals against and were lost in the first. Total mess. Missed assignments all over the place. As I said I only saw the first period but Corrado easily better.

I kinda feel that Lindholm is overrated and has the potential to be a big disappointment.

A 30 point D who's not even on pace to crack 20 points this season, with 28 career PP points in 271 games and will probably have about 100 hits, shots and blocks. All these numbers are a huge MEH for a top pairing D.

Let's also remember that he's been playing with a much more experienced and talented D core and team.

- As_I_See_It

Over last two seasons:
Hedman (137games played) - 113 hits, 242 blocked shots, 295 shots - 85 points
Doughty (164 games played) - 277 hits, 249 blocked shots, 416 shots - 97 points
Lindholm (158 games played) - 127 hits, 192 blocked shots, 256 shots - 62 points
Rielly (163 games played) - 156 hits, 225 blocked shots, 315 shots - 65 points
Gardiner (158 games played) - 196 hits, 150 blocked shots, 222 shots - 55 points

Leafs lost..time to panic
- senstroll

Leafs lose to a team that had been in a bit of a drought.
Playing against a goalie that was having a rough go.
A former leaf scoring a couple of goals to lift a team to a win.

Who would have predicted this?

It was inevitable, they were bound to lose a game, the king was bound to play better and the rangers were bound to play better.

its one loss....lets get ready for the senaturds!

Few giveaways last night, but the team was kind of crappy all around so its hard to really blame anyone in particular
- WingmanWillie

Hockey is a team game and most of the time there is a reason as to why things unfold the way they do that may not be the most obvious players fault. The coaches job is to deploy the players he has in the best way possible to take advantage of their strengths and cover for their weaknesses. When your best defenceman is out and you have limited options in what's left, it's a little harder to do and it showed.

One game, still in a playoff spot, games in hand on those around us in the standings. Tomorrow is another day!

In particular those that said 'leafs should take it easy and tank for liljegren; unrealistic expectations to make the playoffs this season'.

yah... seriously.

if there's anything that was learned last night - it's that Rielly is a gem we should all be recognizing what the Leafs have in that guy.

a couple of bounces and that game wasn't a 5-2 loss... not saying they would or should have won (thought the whole team was pretty flat) ... but it wasn't a blatantly one-sided affair at all.

I would guess that if the Leafs learn that Rielly's day-to-day is really week-to-week (hopefully not)... then I would see Uncle Lou making a move for left handed defenseman to shore things up... nothing stellar perhaps a player that is essentially a CAP dump from another team for a mid-round pick.

Let's see Babcock's resume: World Junior, Olympics, World Championship, World Cup, Stanley Cup gets him an 8 year, 50 million dollar contract. I tend to defer to his coaching decisions. He clearly doesn't see Gardiner in the same light as some do otherwise he would be used differently.

Personally, I don't hate Gardiner. In my opionion, he just doesn't fit the template of a good all round defenceman, which Reilly does. Gardiner is your offensive guy when you needs goals. I just cringe when I see him on the ice near the end of a close game.

did you read the Article Mirtle did - Is Jake Gardiner a better defenceman than Morgan Rielly?

Some good info

Because you only remember what you want I guess...I've said all along Polak and Hunwick need an upgrade...I just state my 2 cents when people call them out regardless of how they play and if you don't like my opinion...just don't read. It's not too tough I don't think.

Fack tanking.....doesnt help this team.

I'm guilty of it too.

I mean, I wouldn't mind giving him a few more games to make aproper assessment, but since that isn't likely, all we have to go on is last night.

And he was super average last night. Maybe even slightly below

I'm fine owning that maybe I gave him too much credit, and my perspective was probably based on the team's treatment of him rather than him as a player. Even then, it is hard to say that after such a small sample size

before this season, i said leafs should have the objective to get into playoffs.
i expected them to make the playoffs, and still do.
i think you said the same.

some on here said 'no chance', 'way too early' etc. etc.

it's somewhat incoherent to whine about the defense and loss of yesterday, after the magnificent string of games of last few weeks, in particular if at start of season these same people were predicting a bottom 5 position for the team..

Rielly is good young player...but what really stood out...is the lack of quality D and depth d we have.
But most already knew this.
Time for get better quality Depth D during the season. It wont cost much as it wont take much to better than the crap we have.
