I agree 100%.

Its not that I want some guy that can score 40. I want few players who can produce at even strength.

I think Ristolianen is overrated if I were to pick a name out of those three. Anyway, what I am talking about was on draft day in 2014. Where it would've come down to the Flyers giving up Morin+the pick for Sanheim for first overall (and more). I am happy it didn't happen.

I think that Ekblad is a great player. The proposed deal that I'd heard was Simmonds, 2014 1st (Sanheim), and 2015 1st (Provorov). Hexy wanted the 2015 1st lottery protected (McDavid-proof) and Florida said no. Taking Simmonds out of the deal, I wouldn't do Sanheim + Provorov for Ekblad, so I'm happy it didn't go down.

Ekblad is a good young defenseman. But I think Provorov is going to be better.

I think that happens as the team gets better. Even guys that are outstanding players will have a tough time putting up consistent 5v5 points if they are matched up against great defense routinely. That is why it takes a "generational" guy to do that.

I believe if they used more skill in their lineup the Flyers would see more 5v5 offense (or if they stacked their lines a little more), but more importantly, I think it will improve as better players work their way up to the Flyers

As bad as they've looked the last couple of weeks, this team really isn't that far from being a contender. Within a couple of years the D will be fine and they should be ok in goal by then too. Lindblom will give them a boost at LW, so really, if they can just find one more good center by 18-19, they could be contending by then or 19-20 at the latest.

I forget which season it was, either 2010 or 2011 (90% sure 2010), but we had 6 or 7 different guys with 20+ goals. I much rather spread the wealth than have a generational talent who scores 40 alone.

Yeah, I like them both, but Provorov has that innate ability to just slow a game down and take control and I've really only seen 2 Flyers Dmen that have been able to do that in the past, Howe and Pronger. In a few more years, when they reassess the 2015 draft, folks are going to wonder how Provorov didn't go #2 right after McDavid.

I ageee both would want to go to a contender, but with Sharp's down season and injuries this year maybe the interest wouldn't be mutual from a contender. And hey if the Caps win this year maybe Williams wants to come home. All hypothetical thoughts obviously, but I'd imagine they both would seek 1-2 year deals. Sharp has had a tough season but Williams still can find the net (16 Goals).

I see Sharp and Williams looking for closer to 4 year deals, than 1-2 year deals.

And they need a Henrik Lundqvist type goalie...I don't think Mason is far off. Only .005 away

Based on Mason's SA that is 5 goals

I'm cool with that. You can be a very successful team if you can ice three lines that all score 60-65 goals.

Apparently after last nights game, Ranger fans have climbed down off the ledge. Shame, I had just about convinced them to send us Hank for Mason and AMac.

Like what was said, more than one way to skin a cat. You can build a team on the strength of a few players, or on the collective strength of the entire team. Which one is most susceptible to an injury hampering the team?

Your not going to be able to have Giroux, Voracek, Tavares all making something in the 8mil cap hit range.

I would trade Giroux at that point.

- J35Bacher

I think you could. Chicago will have Toews, Kane and Hossa combining for a combined $26.275m cap hit for the next four seasons.

$26.275m - $8.275m - $8.25m = $9.75m.

Williams took a 2-year deal at age 34 but will insist on 4-years at age 36.

Good luck with that.

Sharp is even less likely to get a 4 year deal after his concussion problems this season. He's 35, so it would also be a 35+ contract where the cap hit remains on the books if the player retires.

You also have to look at who is going to need deals. I mean if people think Provorov is the stud number one defender he is look at Ekblad got.

If....big if....the Flyers wanted to sign Tavares I would prefer to move Giroux so I had space to make sure I could lock up Provorov.

Speaking of Tavares. Isles just got their second straight shutout. They are in 2nd to last place in the eastern conference. The exciting part? They have 3 games in hand on the Flyers and are 6 points behind
