Rubtsov has looked really really good in his first Q game through 2. If the only viewing you've had is that 12th forward/PK safe play in the WJC, you don't have a grasp on him at all. Playing way more skilled and aggressive, but still smart 2-way albeit at LW

Jake Allen is a mess

SUCH a good play along the boards just churning and churning his legs in a boards battle to free it up and get possession. I mean he went from halfway up the wall to behind the net with guys pinning him. He's a beast along the boards and in the forecheck and cycle game for a guy who is only average size.

What a shift though. Earlier where he went back for a puck, got his crossovers going, and just roared past all 3 Mooseheads for his first breakaway. Then he had the presence of mind to corral the loose puck while falling after and whip it to the net for another chance. Then he got the clean breakaway ahead of the play.

He has been amazing tonight. Maybe the best player period.

He really has, and I watched all 65 minutes too. Almost every single shift at whatever strength he was doing things in both ends and constantly noticeable. His confidence with the puck and aggressiveness was night and day compared to the WJC where he played low minutes and had to play safe on the 4th line, or in the KHL getting no time. I'm so happy right now. He got to play big minutes and showcase his true talents. People calling him slow or not very skilled after the world juniors had no idea.

He's so fun if you like smart players with strong effort and versatile skills passing and shooting. He is a really strong skater and can handle the puck on the string, but he'll play at his own pace too just slowing it down to a crawl at times. And he's so strong along the boards and in the cycle game. He's a good fit for the Flyers. One of my favorite things watching him is seeing him forecheck an opposing player. Between his strong stride and his phenomenal stick checking, he eats people up.

Rubtsov is on tomorrow and Saturday at 6pm.

In a couple weeks he plays Phil Myers and Rouyn-Noranda. That should be a fun one. I imagine Myers is back in the lineup by then after his concussion.
