I think he's the poster boy for how difficult the transiton is from the AHL to the NHL. Last year in the Calder Cup playoffs he looked like Bobby Orr down there.

This year, like most young defencemen he has his inconsistencies. Times where he looks brutal and times where he looks good. I think he could be a good bottom pairing guy when it all shakes out.

Matt Martin will show his real worth come playoff time.
Martin - Komarov are guys that have extra value in playoffs.
Martin was one of best players for NYI in last year's playoffs (in particular in series vs Tampa) - even if he had 0 points in them.

have to agree.... standing up for himself will/would create big momentum in the playoffs.... if he lays a big hit on a top player during the playoffs i would expect someone to come calling.
having an effective skater and a fighter that is feared is a huge bonus.

Martin is 2nd in the league when it comes to hits.... his job isnt to go out and score... its to hit, hit, and hit the opponent so that when the scoring lines come out they face defenses who may be just that little half step behind due to having absorb body check after body check.

I think he taps out at capable 2nd pairing D. I know he's playing there now but he shouldn't be. I think he'll be a solid nhler, just has to keep getting better and eliminate a lot of his brain cramps.

Meh, he's played out of position most of the year.
I dont believe he is top 4 dman yet.....or maybe ever. He may be a quality 3rd liner who can fill in the 4 spot when needed for a short time to cover an injury.

Best option we have now.....and he's still young.
