"As Elliotte Friedman notes in his 30 Thoughts, the Oilers already tried to get their hands on Shattenkirk but he didn’t want to sign with the team long term."
The next time brain dead hallfan mentions that we were stupid for not going after him
On a side discussion note to those of you that have iq levels above 60, as per hendersons thoughts, why CANT we deal our first for a potential rental ?
I get a middling (say 16-22ish) has some real value, but we wouldn't be anywhere near the first team to do it.
And I'd contend that a playoff appearance in itself is worth far more than another quality prospect. Even a first round exit
I kinda rather one of duch, landy or hanzal for a few different reasons, but I'd deal for shats in a heartbeat - HB77
So you're asking me? Cuz not sure anyone else on this board qualifies... |

I'm still a wee bit hesitant. Would rather move the pick/picks for a solid 3C and/or secondary scoring with term.

Blues wont bother trading him if the return is conditional plus some B level prospects. |

Good blog; always enjoy reading them.
“maybe he’s better in the NHL than the AHL.” I really don’t think that’s how it works for goalies.
I remember when Andrew Hammond was playing lights out the other year and everybody was surprised, particularly because his AHL numbers were pretty bad. The argument was made that certain goalies play a lot better in the NHL compared to the minors because it's way more chaotic down there and so difficult to read plays. Certain goalies play much better with that structure in front of them, despite the quality of players being drastically better.
That being said, Hammond hasn't proven to be much more than a one season wonder so far, so take that for what it's worth... looking into it, in 2007-08, Price had a .896 SV% in the AHL (10 GP) and a .920 SV% (40 GP) in the NHL. That same year, Quick was the opposite: .922 in 19 GP in the AHL and a .855 in 3 GP in the NHL (following year he had a .919 in 14 GP in the AHL and a 9.14 in 44 GP in the NHL). More I look into it, appears to be more of the exception as opposed to the rule... so yea, you're probably right that it's bs...
idk. i'm bored. |

I'd say no to a rental. We are likely losing some free agents already and will likely lose Pouliot or similar to Las Vegas in expansion. Drai needs resigned and McDavid and Nurse next season. Would be good to have a guy developing that could step in on an elc in a couple years. |

Just do a quick one online. Not entirely accurate but will give a decent idea.

If this were next year, I'd be fine with it. However, our prospect cupboard just isn't deep enough or far enough along to withstand losing our 1st this year while already missing our 2nd. If the team can come out of the draft with another two solid bets at top-9 players and an RH, offensive D prospect, then I'd be happy to consider it next year. For the time being, though, we only have Benson, Khaira, Vesel and Rasanen as our only even decent forward bets with Benson being the only one with a realistic top-6 ceiling. Losing #16 and #33 for Reinhart in 2015 killed our ability to take that step as soon.
However, if we can add a Dman with some term left so he doesn't just leave immediately, then I would entertain the idea. A package of Mike Green and Jurco for our 1st would grab my attention. |

fair.
i figured this is where the apprehension would lie.
not entirely unreasonable, and im not oblivious to the fact that one always needs to be restocking the pool.
but connor, one of nuge/ebs, leon, lucic and puju.
plus maroon caggiula, slepyshev
going forward. (forgetting some of the lesser thans and questions marks)
i dont think its depth where we're struggling. its a real scorer beyond leon/connor who can put up quality numbers. i think we already have it in ebs, but ill concede that his game leaves something to be desired, so when hes not scoring, hes anything but ideal. and we prob need to jettison one of those 6 mil contracts between him and nuge.
but ill say again, with that group now and going forward, and an added piece (be it rental or not), i say giving ourselves a boost in the playoff race is entirely worth it long term for this rebuild. essentially, id say the term 'rebuild' is a thing of the past if we do achieve that goal. even with a quick exit.
And thats not to mention anaheim going gangbusters recently and LA about to get quick back |

I still maintain that the result of that hit is on Ekblad. He looks back, sees him coming and instead of making an easy play on the puck and taking the hit he knew was coming he tried to get fancy and reverse the play.

A good deal of my apprehension to trading the pick centers around one player. A guy I've been advocating heavily for has risen up the draft charts from mid-50s early season to right around where our 1st rounder will likely be. My pick of the draft, Henri Jokiharju.
He's a two-way D whose offensive game has taken big steps over the last year and brings fantastic skating and strong breakout ability (leans pass but regularly skates it out, too). From what I understand, he's spent a good deal of time alongside Caleb Jones in the Dub and played with Puljujarvi and Rasanen at last year's World U18 tourney.
He's 6'0, 170lbs last time he was officially weighed so he has a manageable frame with his chippy attitude. Both CS and ISS have him in that mid 20s range.

Everything points upwards with him: June birthday (young side of his draft class), has consistently trended upwards, has experienced his success among fellow Oiler prospects and is producing strong offensive numbers as a draft year Dman. |

Sounds good.
But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I hope we flip the pick for immediate help. |
